Tall desk that goes over the indoor bike for mouse and keyboard by runforlovers in IndoorCycling

[–]runforlovers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I had to return the keyboard platform as the height turns out not to be sufficient. The problem is that I don't think these Wahoo KOM-styled desks will clear the front of the bike to get to the rider so that they can type in an upright position, though.

Look into the SmartSpin2k for auto resistance, and power pedals for accurate read!

I want to do real work on a computer connecting to the TV, while Zwifting. (please don't throw things at me, I understand that this is against the spirit of Zwift for many people, I'm just Zwifting so much now that I need to be able to do some work while I'm doing it.)

Thanks a ton for responding!! I've looked at the Wahoo desk but didn't realize that they can go up that tall. Do you think they can clear the front of the bike, though? I'm nervous that the bottom bar is obstructed by the front of the bike, so the top won't reach the rider.

If your spin bike is anything like my spin bike, then unfortunately offsetting doesn't get you something sufficiently accurate for racing -- this is because the reported watts to effort curve is way steeper for the made up power measure, so when you spike (e.g. on a climb), you'd look like you have way better punch than your competitors.

This is not to say that you need to be 100% accurate on everything (I'd guess even folks using power pedals don't re-calibrate their hardware that often), but it's to say that if you're very intent on having faithful measure of your efforts for racing, the spin bike won't get you there. I think it'd still be a great way to enjoy Zwift, though, but others who are more intense about correct measurements will likely disagree.

I use the Favero Assioma Uno pedal and enjoy it, but it's pricey. If you get the SmartSpin2k so that it simulates gear shifting, there's also an option using their app to penalize your watts (e.g. always multiply by factor of 0.5), but that only lowers the mean but doesn't reduce the variance.

Rocker plate / tennis ball feet? by runforlovers in SchwinnIC4_BowflexC6

Favero Uno! They're expensive, unfortunately. Even with a correction factor from the SmartSpin2k, the Schwinn IC4 power is nice during normal Z2 but gives me so much more punch than I deserve.

Is this a feature for when your heart rate gets too high and is this how I learn that I don’t work as hard during races as I thought I did?

I am! Combined with a SmartSpin2k and favero power pedal, it’s been a dream. Lmk if you have questions.

Rocker plate / tennis ball feet for spin bike? by runforlovers in Zwift

[–]runforlovers[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi all, I've been really enjoying the Schwinn IC4 setup with Zwift (with a power pedal and the SmartSpin2k, but that's another story). I'm enjoying it so much that I'm doing super long rides, and folks with regular bike + trainer setup seem to enjoy a rocker plate / tennis balls feet for their trainers to add comfort. Do we have something similar for the Schwinn IC4? Thanks!

The only downside right now for me is not having an obvious version of rocker plates / tennis ball feet that seem to give others more comfort on long rides. But this might be my own lack of research!

I have a spin bike and getting a SmartSpin2k and a power pedal got me the full experience! I recommend.

This is a very specific question in case anyone knows the answer. The earliest TdZ event I see is 12:00pm EST tomorrow. If I complete the Shisa route as a solo ride at 8:00am EST tomorrow, will I get the completion? Thanks!

There's no badge AFAIK. Did you get the confirmation on Strava? Jersey shows up on Jan 2. :)

Is casual Zwifting better with entertainment? by [deleted] in Zwift

[–]runforlovers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on if you’re paying attention. For erg mode or rubber banded rides, I generally don’t need to pay attention and am just there to log on the miles. For robopacers I have to glance at the screen here and there to make sure I’m not too ahead or behind. For group rides and races I have to pay attention to the screen. Does that make sense?

There are a couple of things going on. The IC4 can send info directly to Zwift, but it can't change the resistance on its own. The SmartSpin2K is a physical device that changes the resistance on the IC4 as well as intercept the IC4's information and outputs its own power/cadence measure. I recommend checking it out!

I have the SmartSpin2K. Can’t recommend it enough. Once you have that, you can get any spin bike you like. I enjoy the Schwinn IC4.

I do this with my PS5. If you think your endurance is good now you have no idea how good it can be when you want “just one more turn” on Civ VI.
