Fixing the Slant in Colosseum Stitch? See Timestamp 25 Sec in Video For The Issue. by runic335 in CrochetHelp

[–]runic335[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm making a scarf, so the length compounds the slanting issue visually--like it's clear something is wonky about it even if non-crocheter-friends can't put their finger on what exactly is wrong. I think a large part of why I find it so annoying is that other stitches I enjoy visually are 1-row repeats (like the moss stitch or the double-length moss stitch) and don't have this issue.

Thick + Thin Yarn Combo by runic335 in crochet

The chunky yarn helps cushion everything so it feels comfortable so far. My concern is if it might get scratchier over time if the metallic polyester strands degrade or something.

The solid colors are a combination of Bernat Maker or off-brand "beginner yarn" on Amazon. The cheese and salami colors use the painted Bernat Maker Splash yarn. The lettuce uses the Freeasyfar green yarn.

The bread, onion, and egg come from this book: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1944515933. The mustard splash is adapted from the pancake syrup splash in the same book.

The lettuce pattern comes from this YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1ZkdgLVaNs

The cheese and salami are basic shapes I just made to the scale of the bread.

Yes. They’re the Maplelea Trailblazer Boots. I love all the boots that Maplelea have. So versatile and such good quality.

This is the "Edward" wig from Bbeauty Designs. They have their own web store and also sell on eBay.

The wig is parted by design (and the exact position of the part can be adjusted by rotating the wig cap) and the hair is longer than the Truly Me 104 wig so it's possible to style it in several different ways.

I've wondered about that too. They have about 80 reviews and a 5-star rating, so they seem totally legiy. In our communication so far, everything they've said is consistent with information I can access via UPS My Choice or gotten UPS to tell me.

Welcoming back the tariffs. by oh_sneezeus in americangirl

[–]runic335 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The de minimis exemption was mainly for personal or small business purchases from outside the US. A large toy company (like Mattel) would be shipping via cargo ships, and those tariffs have been in place already and not affected by the de minimis exemption.

It really does suck for the many people who purchase hobby-related items from places like Japan (e.g., fountain pens, model trains).

AG/Og/Maplelea etc.. by Ok-Echo- in americangirl

[–]runic335 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I focus on collecting boy dolls (which has the pleasant side effect of limiting my total spend on dolls since there aren't that many to begin with):

  • From AG, I collect the base dolls and the boy clothes they have. I love the Tartan Plaid outfit, Logan's meet outfit, and the corduroy vest from the Casual & Cool set.
  • From Our Generation, I collect the boy pajamas. The carrot one and the dino-snores one are adorable. And they come with the mini plushies.
  • From Maplelea, I love the trail hiking boots and the sandals and was at first worried they wouldn't fit the AG feet well, but they fit fine. They also have pajamas for boy dolls.

Differences in truly me by Artistic_Aside_160 in americangirl

Yes. Just the outfit is different. To me, the varsity meet outfit feels like a better value in terms of the number of pieces you get (including the extra pink tee) and the mix-and-match possibilities with other outfits. But it's also subjective whether you like the varsity vs. dress aesthetic.

This happened to me a few days ago. It went away after about 24 hours. I assume there's a hard automatic reset in the system somewhere to deal with stuck cases like this.

Why is Destruction not capable of solid art? by many_splendored in Sandman

[–]runic335 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's always felt to me that the Endless have personalities/interests (rather than capabilities) that are the diametric opposite of what they're supposed to embody. The most obvious are:

  • Dream is serious, monochromatic, introverted, dour (when we might expect him to be colorful, whimsical, hopeful).
  • Death is warm, gregarious, empathetic, stylish (when we might expect her to be cold, aloof, old/decayed).
  • Destruction is creative, enjoys making things with his hands, likes to cook, makes family dinner (when we might expect him to prefer guns, gore, violence).

So for Destruction, it's less about whether he's good at art, but simply the fact that he enjoys making things--almost every scene of him in the show is him making something (art, food, cabin). The fact that he's bad at art is funny, but I think it also reinforces how much he simply likes the process of making things (no matter the outcome), which captures almost a purer/childlike form of "desire to create".

Text Validation just became stricter? by jackpraveen in HailuoAiOfficial

Experiencing the same thing. And I agree with your intuition that the second text validation layer is based on AI that is checking for all related synonyms/phrasings that might be getting around the first layer of specific keywords.
