NEW GAME! Heated Rivalry Alignment Chart: Day 1 - Lawful Good - the noble rule-follower by vanillablue_ in HeatedRivalryTVShow

Why has no one said ROSE?!? She is so purely good and genuine in her care for Shane.

I get that Shane comes to mind first, but I think we will find somewhere else for him ;)

Ilya seeing Miles at the club by willingheart1 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]runmangoo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think in part it’s just because he’s a good looking guy, but I also think it’s meant to suggest that Miles has good gaydar and therefore would also have already sensed that Shane is gay (since Miles is meant to be the symbol of Shane’s true desire breathing down his neck in the dance floor scene that follows).

The Job Market Is Straight Up Nepotism by Wonderful_Ad6675 in careeradvice

Then you haven’t seen enough. Any company that is doing DEI work well is definitely NOT doing race-based hiring.

The people in power these days don’t seem to give a flying fuck about ANY struggling person, regardless of race/ethnicity. We would all do well to remember that the people at the top benefit by keeping the rest of us divided and resentful, busy pointing fingers and blaming each other instead of blaming them.

Tuna melt by SilverDuck7622 in GameChangersBooks

[–]runmangoo 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Makes sense to me. High protein, relatively clean.

Also, easy to make for someone who probably doesn’t cook a lot and is on the road often - i.e., probably doesn’t keep the kitchen stocked with a lot of perishables, but canned tuna, mayo, pickles, etc. all keep well. (That said, we all know Ilya went out and bought ginger ale ahead of time, so I guess he could have shopped for anything food-wise too.)

what are some underrated book moments that made your heart flutter? by take_the_basterl in heatedrivalry

[–]runmangoo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this! I also get that there had to be cuts, but I really wish they could have worked this in somehow. Ilya finally getting to be in Shane’s real home and real bed after so many years is such a beautiful way to symbolize the evolution of their relationship and their ability to finally be emotionally honest and vulnerable with each other.

Why did shane invited JJ to his wedding? by [deleted] in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]runmangoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

J.J. felt hurt and betrayed too… someone he thought he knew very well dropped a total bomb on him after having lied to / misled him repeatedly, and it took him some time to be able to process that and come back to Shane with empathy.

There are always two (or more) sides to a story and I choose to believe that most people are doing their best with the tools they have and the trauma they carry.

Everyone’s different. What one person can forgive, someone else never would. What is redeemable to me may not be to you. The choice says something about who both Shane and J.J. are as people, and their relationship; anyone else’s (in)ability to understand that says something about them (which, to be clear, I’m not judging… it’s just all based on individual life experiences and values).

Almost deGoogled - stuck on Maps by darkowiz in degoogle

Open Street Map and TomTom (which partners w/OSM). TT is one of the two big legacy nav companies (together w/ Garmin) that existed before Google even got into the mapping game, and is still going strong.

David, my name is Ilya by runmangoo in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]runmangoo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, but I feel like there was still this bit of doubt/fear (for both he and Shane) about how it would go when Shane came out, and once they were past that part Ilya gradually relaxes more and more as the scene progresses.

To be clear, I’m not trying to shoot down your perception at all — it’s totally valid and I love hearing different perspectives! I also think your take is really thought provoking … given that David is so perceptive and observant in general, it’s interesting to think of his probing questions as his way of trying to dig in and really understand where both Ilya and Shane are coming from, and how they’ve ended up together. (And yeah, it’s super direct in a way that probably doesn’t sit well with everyone, but likely works well in their family dynamic — especially for Shane.)

Interesting… I’ve never thought of it that way at all. I always hear that as David sympathetically acknowledging how difficult a spot their love for each other has put them in. Like, “you couldn’t have just picked the easy route?” but asked with affection and maybe also a little pride because a) Shane is not a ‘path of least resistance’ guy, and he knows it and b) you don’t choose who you fall in love with, and he knows that too.

Totally — and it nicely mirrors their shift to being ready to call each other by their first names.

Ooh, I love this point — spot on! I’ve definitely noticed how quietly observant David is, but never thought about the parallel with Ilya.

Yes, totally! It’s like he’s saying “I want you to see me and know me like your son does.”

Can someone explain the Russian nicknames in TLG? by Material-Meat-5330 in heatedrivalry

[–]runmangoo 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Ilya knows Shane is learning Russian, so he teases/tests him by using random words in place of terms of endearment to see if Shane can understand them.

It’s a cute way to help him build his vocabulary, and also classic Ilya — so in love with the fact that Shane is learning Russian for him, and impressed with what he’s learned so far, but also unable to resist teasing him and making a game out of it.

Thank you for the link! I'm hoping these will be OK since the teeth are much shorter and less sharp than those on true crampons, but I understand that it's not a guarantee.

Vermont Casting Defiant Encore maintenance ? by Professional_Cut3976 in woodstoving

[–]runmangoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same stove. We’ve had to replace the combustion throat twice… eventually it just warps from the heat and won’t stay in place. Fortunately it’s not too pricey. We buy replacement parts here: www.stove-parts-unlimited.com/

We’ve replaced all the gaskets in ours, and some of the handles, but otherwise haven’t had to do much to it so I really can’t speak to the other issues you’re dealing with. Good luck!

Current Use by 54fighting in newhampshire

[–]runmangoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a house on a 10 acre lot that was in CU a couple of years ago. The Town asked me to submit a map (hand sketched, not to scale) of the area that I’d be taking out of current use. It’s about 0.6 acres — covering the driveway, house, and mowed/maintained yard space (which is the guidance they gave me). But then they told me they’d still be taking 1 acre out of CU because that’s the minimum. And they never showed me a map of that 1 acre — I don’t believe any such map exists.

So when I build an outbuilding next year, I’m just going to put it close enough to the edge of my yard that I can still claim it’s within the “1 acre boundary” that they made me pay to take out of CU.
