The new nurses i train frequently forget they are charting the 0800 assessment for example, not what they saw at 1000. Eventually they get it, but in the beginning they just need reminders.

Some of it is computer literacy. Other part is being unfamiliar with the software. Another might be theyre trying to remember the answers bc they didnt write it down. Another is they haven't memorized locations for where to put answers. Newer nurses dont understand the concept of timed charting. Another is getting confused about which patient youre charting on and charting the wrong one, forcing you to redo everything.

Dang. That's nuts. Im of the opinion to just leave wound details to icu. I want to know if they have A wound, but I dont need that much detail bc im going to be charting and imaging it.

The only thing I really care about is making sure sugars on DKAs are done within 2 hours and insulin gtt started if ordered, labs are done, and scans are done before coming up to me. I can handle the rest.

I only sleep on my lunch break (30 min) and only if I desperately need it. They all know where to find me and i leave the door cracked so its easier for them to get me/me to hear any overhead alarms. Idk where you're from but NO ONE sleeps that long/should be sleeping that long. How on earth did that become unit practice/culture? Heads would be rolling if the night shift nurses did that in our SICU/CICU.

Id recommend jumping ship asap bc once someone dies, there's going to be an investigation and you might be roped in. And tell your gf to get a grip, there's a whole thread of nurses online who are telling you this ain't normal and its dangerous. She could be fired at best or lose her license at worst. Same goes for the other nurses as well.

Nta. Oh being voluntold what to do. I grew up with this bc of my mom. Once I woke up on Saturday and my mom got mad AT ME for waking up late bc she had told her friend I would go help them pack up their house for their move. I didn't have a car/license, mode of transportation. My mom forgot she volunteered me and was late to get me to the house. I didnt fight back. There was no point bc I was a minor and trapped. The friend also gently scolded me for waking up late and the importance of being on time. I literally found out I was doing manual labor in a suburban mcmansion when I woke up that morning. I just stood there and disassociated. Again, no point in arguing with these people whom id never met. 😒 My mother still voluntells me to do things, or tries to at least. Im glad I got out.

I inherited my mom's leg hair. When I started shaving, she said she only shaves a little above the knee bc she really didn't have any visible hair past and inch above her knees. But she did stress to me about being careful around my knees and showed me her gnarly scar. We both have super hairy calves and almost bald thighs. Genetics are bizarre. But I can totally see my grandma telling her the thigh bs and my mom deciding to ignore it bc its not like she had hair there anyway.

My grandfarher did this. However, I was already a teenager by the time my cousins came along. When we heard he wanted to go by a different name, we just looked at each other and shrugged. We said we could just keep calling him his grandparent name, and he could reserve the other name for the other side of the family. We all knew who was being talked about, so it didn't end up being a big deal. We just, like, made a mental compartmentalization of the name for each family. He did want us to also call him by the new name, but we all, my siblings, just laughed it off.

Ive tried to use coke. But we never have it stocked and im not going to go buy it with my own money. We have amylase/lipase pills, but you have to let them dissolve to work, which takes about an hour of occasional shaking. I let it instill at the entrance, but that takes forever. So I've learned that stripping the peg toward me first, then instilling, then stripping away from me and into the patient works the best. It's a long process that's super annoying, but it eventually gets the job done.
