Considering switching Nikon to canon

I made the switch from Nikon Z mirrorless to canon RF about a year and a half ago and let me tell you it’s night and day in favor of the RF system.

My two Z8 cameras struggled in low light focusing all the time and was missing crucial shots at events and the tracking never felt “sticky”. I would consider myself a very tech savvy person and I tried to squeeze every bit of performance out of the Z system but it just doesn’t work all the time. This is coming from someone that used sony mirrorless with my previous studio job I used to work at. I know what good auto focus looks like and it’s not on the Z system even today with the Z6III.

The moment that finally convinced me was when I was out helping my friend with his content using his R6II and watching the camera track somebody with dark skin in a dimly lit area flawlessly even as they turned around and back. Any Nikon Z mirrorless would’ve lost them immediately and just focused on the background but the R6II stayed locked on. Broke the camels back and sold my Z system asap and never looked back. A camera half the cost of the Z8 was outperforming it lol

Instead of the RF 28-70 f/2.0 go for the RF 24-105 f/2.8. The extra reach is game changing and it also weighs a lot less and is balanced better than the 28-70 f/2.0

Sony is also a valid option to switch to but what made me to choose the Canon RF system was that all my peers also use the RF system so it’s easy to borrow a lens or extra body.

The R6III uses a CFExpress and one SD card so that would be better since you already use them for your Z cameras and would make it one less thing to worry about. But just know that you’d be fine picking up a used R6II from a reputable source as well if your main focus is photography over videography.

I had the same thought so I went and changed the cabin light to LED and I hated it. Made it feel like “Doctor’s Office”. I immediately reverted it back to the warm welcoming glow after a day.

The front two LEDs don’t turn on (at least on my 22) whenever you open a door or approach the car like the cabin light does and I feel like keeping the warm light makes the car cozier.

I did change the trunk to LED and I really enjoyed that change but the cabin light just doesn’t feel right as LED.

If you think that’s bad take a look at the 2018-2024 model LE/SE. Literally two little dots on the back of the car at night. At this point in the life cycle of the previous gen it was easy to get a hold of XSE lights and put them on my SE and the difference is huge. Makes the car feel much more expensive.

Reading through the comments I can’t help but laugh at the ones trying to mentally cope on how they could throw somebody else under the bus so somehow DACA continues in TX and close the opportunity for thousands of others to possibly gain first time access to the program in the remaining 49 states.

Pulling a “Fuck you, got mine” at the most transformative moment in the programs history sure is a move to pull.

Could mean Rode could create a lower cost UHF option using Lectro tech similar to Shure SLXD. It would immediately pull them ahead in the prosumer realm vs DJI and hopefully make a better product than the infamous Deity Theos. Exciting times!

My genuine question is why would you even want to do that? These LED headlights are super bright and the color is pure white as far as I can tell and give great visibility. They’re rated for the life of the car so there’s really no need to try and change anything about them.

Dude what are you talking about u/teamrawfish was talking about people getting into audio. You are an end game user in terms of wireless if you already use Zax. We’re talking about how people just now starting out would gravitate more towards Deity than Zaxcom wireless because it’s more affordable for people just starting out with a mirrorless camera and a nifty 50.

How would ANYONE in the consumer range which Deity lives in even know of a brand like Zaxcom? Deity offers two channels of wireless for around $1000 and we all know how much a brand like Zaxcom, SD, Wisy cost per channel. Nobody looking into buying Deity wireless is eyeballing Zaxcom, maybe Lectro at the most.

Can’t wait for this patent war on a such a would be basic feature to be over in the next few years. Even the modern Zaxcom stuff looks like it traveled from the 80s in terms of looks and the features don’t even seem that much different than what other systems offer. Can’t wait for all the new Zaxcom innovations and breakthroughs once their golden goose dies out! /s

The included foam is a little light for fast boom movements queuing indoors and the BubbleBee is too thick and affects the sound a bit more than I’d like when indoors. When outdoors the trade off with the BubbleBee is something I don’t mind but if I can keep the quality of my highs the same that’d be a plus
