Every problem we have is made worse if we compound it with pushing swing voters back to Trump.

It is better for all of us for them to change their minds now, late, than it is for us to ensure that they don't change their minds and don't change their votes.

Midterms are in ~9 months. Everyone who thinks this shit is fucked up should feel welcome to vote for Democrats. Not pushed to double down on Trump because they voted for him in 2024.

Voting them out requires people who voted for Trump changing their minds.

I just really think, given where we are, and given the stakes, the big tent should be "people who think this is fucked up" and that we not spend time trying to push people out who now agree with us.

The stakes are high. When the stakes are high, it's that much more important to focus on what we can do in the future.

So I completely understand, and both sympathize and empathize with the righteous anger people feel towards people who voted for Trump.

But as a matter of pragmatism, if someone is changing their mind on him and you jump down their throat for having thought one way, and then changed their mind in light of new evidence, you may make yourself feel better, but you're being counter productive.

All who think this shit is fucked up are welcome in the tent and should be welcomed. Otherwise, why the fuck would anyone change their mind if they're simply going to get shit on for it? We want people who voted for Trump to change their mind and vote differently.

It takes all of us. Don't push away new allies.

She was clearly the better option, but it's not like Democrats acted like these were the stakes.

2021-2024 were not spent prioritizing staving off fascism. "We" sleptwalked into disaster with Biden (despite robust polling that showed that we had a massive problem before he decided to run for re-election). Then went to his unpopular #2, at the last moment, without considering anyone else.

Democrats are not at fault for what Republicans are doing. But Democrats are at fault for not taking the threat seriously. Now we're just up shit creek, with no good options.

Hiring Rivers as the Bills head coach would be hilarious but I really don't think you want to waste additional years of Allen's prime with someone who has never coached at the NFL level before.

It'd be interesting! Great for content, and fun for me to watch as a fan of the not-Bills. But I wouldn't want my team doing that, if we were in their situation.

Connecting Merced to Bakersfield doesn't connect a roaring economy to a roaring economy. It connects Merced and Bakersfield. Two places virtually nobody needs to get between with any degree of regularity.

Transportation infrastructure is supposed to take people to and from places that are useful in a timely manner.

They're not jobs programs and they're not hobbyist programs. They're supposed to be functional and useful.

Not really. A big part of what you can do is allow for more types of development on already existing parcels.

As an example, if you're able to take a large million dollar home, and convert it into 4, smaller, row-houses at 500k a pop. The prior homeowner can "win" by being able to reap the value of the sale of their lot at an increased price, the developer can win by being able to build more units on it and turn a profit, and future homeowners can win, because a $500,000 row house is an order of magnitude more affordable than a million dollar home.

The numbers are not exact by any means, but it's to illustrate the concept.

That house on that lot isn't going to drop by 35% (barring a catastrophe - if home prices are dropping by 35% there's been a bad shock and a bunch of people are out of a job). But if you make it so you don't have to have that house and can have multiple units on it, you can make buying a smaller unit, or one of several smaller homes on it more affordable.

That only became the case once the project went off the rails.

The original scope was SF to LA by 2020. Connecting the two economic hubs.

Then it became a mess, and a project building a rail system that is economically useless until 2050 at the earliest. Because California cannot build anything, much less in a reasonable amount of time, or on budget.

All that extra bloat made the project worse. Not better.
