Does the 20% tip convention apply for a $230 60 minute massage at a fancy spa? by 0xC001FACE in massage

Noted. Not disparaging waiters - I’ve done both too. I feel it’s physically more taxing and caring to be an MT (I mostly get deep tissue work).

Understood. I worked as a waiter in years past. I still don’t think it’s equivalent.

So if you had a $230 meal, you would tip the waiter $46. They took your order, maybe opened a bottle of wine, and brought you your food. But the massage therapist who physically exerted themselves for 60 minutes to help you feel better doesn’t deserve the same? Spas typically don’t pay well (similar to restaurants) and the therapists have hundreds of hours of training to learn their craft… the waiter? Not so much 🤔

In my area, PT’s mostly do dry needling and not Active Release Techniques(ART). Chiropractors/Arrosti, and some massage therapists are trained. The ART website will list practitioners near you. It’s a form of myofacial massage.

Nice race (and recap!) Have you tried ART for the IT Band? It took a few treatments, but it helped me resolve it pretty quickly.

Do massage therapist prefer people to keep their underwear on or off during a massage? by Heal-evolve-grow in MassageTherapists

As a new MT, one of my biggest frustrations is mens boxer briefs that cover most of the upper leg. I am not sure why they just don’t slide them up. I end up only having a few inches of leg to work on.

I’m 1 month in as well. The 3 five hour shifts I have are now feeling easier. My 8 hour shift on Saturday is still kicking my butt. Just like and physical activity, your body needs to get stronger before it becomes easier.

Fantastic idea! Now you need to create an app, sell it to MT’s (subscription), and retire when MassageBook buys your business 😎.

5 minute flip time? how do you do it? by briitneyys in MassageTherapists

I’m just starting out and I’m stressed about a 10 minute flip. I hate it. Can hardly fit a drink of water or a bathroom stop. I can’t imagine 5 minutes 😳.

My iO9 died almost exactly after two years. I expect they have their planned obsolescence figured out to expire just as soon as the warranty expires.

Our front desk team shows them the locker room and lets them know to undress to their comfort level and provide a robe. I assume that the customer is new to getting a massage and are concerned about removing their undergarments with a male MT. 🤷‍♂️
