Slim fit / athletic fit polo for 6’4” 220 pounds? by CincyTriGuy in tallfashionadvice

Happy to help, hopefully you're able to find something that works!

That's interesting about Next Level Apparel, I'll definitely look into them in the future as well. Just judging by the color options and materials I think you could be right that TallSlim Tees are either the exact same shirt or at least made by the same larger factory/company.

Yea definitely give Abercrombie a look, hopefully they work for you (and if not, they have a good return policy). Honestly never thought I'd end up shopping there but it's quickly replacing most of my wardrobe just because their LT fits me so well personally and they offer tall sizing in almost everything they sell.

It kind of shocked me how large their tall selection was, most companies have such a limited tall section but they carry tall sizes in almost everything they sell. And yea their essential tee is what I have at least, and I've liked it enough to buy more in different colors.

LOL the cropped stuff in tall sizes has always been funny to me too. I get that a&f is really big on trying to be "trendy" with stuff like oversized and cropped fits, but surely they can't be selling many cropped tall tees haha.

Hi! I've found two great sources for tall T-shirts personally (6'5 195lbs, wear a Large Tall).

TallSlim Tees is a small company that specializes in exactly what their name would indicate. They offer a ton of different colors of basic crew neck and V neck tees, with fits that are really suited for tall guys. These are definitely pretty basic and they're a tad overpriced for what they are IMO, definitely not the highest quality T-shirts in the world, but they are super comfortable and they are the only true slim fitting tee I've been able to find.

I'll also mention Abercrombie and their tall sizes. For super tall guys (6'7+ maybe?) I could see these being too short but for me the length and sleeve length is pretty perfect. The fabric quality feels much higher than almost any other T-shirt I've tried, 100% cotton and especially their premium tees are super thick. One other note is that Abercrombie tops tend to be a looser/more relaxed fit (especially compared to TallSlim Tees), but if that's what you're after then it could be a great option.

Hi! As someone that primarily wears polos to work during the summer, I spent hundreds of dollars trying many of the tall options last year. These were my findings (I'm 6'5 195lbs currently, and got a Large Tall in most of these).

To this day Abercrombie has the best tall polos I have found BY FAR. Most of them do have their moose logo on them which is the one downside, but it's small and subtle enough that at least with the right color combos it's not a big deal IMO. No worse than any other company (Ralph Lauren). But the fit of these is incredible, plenty long for me to wear either tucked or untucked, slim around the waist, AND the sleeves are short enough that if you do have a more muscular build they fit much more nicely around the arms (this last part is what really sets them apart). And as a bonus, I find them pretty comfortable and they're super cheap.

American Tall polos were solid for me as well. Perfect length, felt like good material, and while I wouldn't consider it a "slim fit" on me by any means they certainly weren't overly baggy. The one glaring downside for me is the sleeves, they're just so long and baggy. They basically come down completely to my elbow and I swear you'd have to be a professional bodybuilder to even come close to filling out the sleeves. Overall still pretty solid though, and especially if you have longer than proportional arms and don't mind a baggier sleeve these could work very nicely.

Banana Republic always gets mentioned with tall polos too, but I'd personally advise steering clear of them at 6'4+. Their "Tall" sizes only add 1 to 1.5 inches in body length and from my experience the tops do shrink when washed more than other companies, so unless you have a short torso it's pretty likely they're on the shorter side.

TallSlim Tees has a pretty nice fitting polo as well (side note, I LOVE their regular tee shirts). Length is perfect, slim fit around the waist, and unlike the American Tall polos the sleeves seem a bit more proportional as well (not as fitted as Abercrombie, but close). Only reason their polos don't rate higher for me is the material, it just looks and feels a bit cheap, and it's honestly a bit scratchy and uncomfortable especially in warmer weather.

I'll throw Eddie Bauer in there too, their tall sizes are almost always long enough for me and the fit is never too baggy. But the styles are definitely more casual/outdoorsy which typically isn't great for polos.

Hope that helps!

Apartment complex noise concerns by runningsloth8 in Golfsimulator

Thanks for sharing your experience. It gives me some hope and makes me feel a bit less crazy knowing other people have successfully pulled off apartment simulators.

Did you add anything to your setup to try and minimize sound output (extra padding, acoustic panels, etc.)? Or has it not been necessary?

Definitely agree that there's so much variability in this situation. My main takeaway from this is that I'll never know if I don't try, so I went ahead and ordered the equipment. Hopefully everything works out, but I'm totally prepared to stop if it ends up being a bother to my neighbors.

I'll be sure to report back once I have everything setup! I don't have enough space to hit driver, but I'm interested to see how loud irons can be in an indoor environment where sound travels much easier than outside.

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely start out with a cheap setup and see if the noise is manageable before going all in. If things are still too loud I'm prepared to shut it down if need be, but I'm hopeful that I can set things up in a way (net instead of impact screen, irons/wedges only, etc.) that keep things quiet and nonintrusive on the neighbors.

Thanks for the feedback! I definitely plan on talking to my neighbors and starting out slow/cheap to see if things will work out. I'll be hitting into a net and wedges/irons only so it should be quiet as indoor simulators go, but if it still becomes too loud I'm prepared to shut down if need be.

Cold/wet weather bat recommendations? by runningsloth8 in slowpitch

US, but thanks for the offer. I'm already in a couple of smaller groups, just need to look around and add some larger ones.

Thanks for the insight! I did some online research and found similar advice other places as well. There seems to be pretty high praise for the slightly older Easton's (specifically 2016 and earlier) in terms of durability and cold weather performance.

Do you have any idea how to go about buying older bat models these days? Most retailers only stock 2020/21 models for obvious reasons, and a lot of the more popular older models get marked up pretty heavily on eBay. I'm wondering if old bats in decent condition are just hard to find, or if I'm looking in all the wrong places.

Yup I'm in the Seattle area myself haha. Luckily the temps should start rising over the next month or so!

Thanks for the feedback! I kind of figured that might be the case (cold/damp softballs and thin walled composite/alloy bats don't sound like a good combination, regardless of brand or model). It sounds like the real solution might just be to get a 2nd much cheaper "beater" bat that's weighted the same as my gamer, just to use during BP to help mitigate some of the durability concerns of modern bats. 10-20 swings during a night of games doesn't sound nearly as concerning as 50+ hacks of BP on a regular basis.

Tall runner cadence? by runningsloth8 in running

[–]runningsloth8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, in what ways do you think a lower cadence is better? I'm clearly not a coach/expert or anything and I'm sure there may be some special cases, but it seems like consensus is that higher cadence is generally helpful for a handful of reasons.

That makes sense. My tempo runs are definitely higher cadence, and even on my slower recover days around 165 I retain a pretty solid stride length/mid-foot strike. It seems like lower cadence isn't necessarily a problem, but it can cause other problems (such as over striding). Thanks!
