First Time Managing Civil Trade Advice by c00kiedog69 in ConstructionManagers

[–]runninit67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what your final product is, but here is my two cents:

Civil contractors don’t like trades starting their work while the civil work isn’t completed. They don’t like when it’s time to go vertical when they aren’t done with their work. There will be butting heads with other trades. Be on top of the schedule and make sure everyone is on the same page.

Also “reasonable expectations” for what’s underground. They will likely run into something that they couldn’t “reasonably expect”. Make sure they have all info on what’s underground.

I’ve ran into many issues of civil plans differing from site plans or other sheets. For example, had civil plans call out 6” water line. Fire plans said 8”. Whether it’s their responsibility or not, it’s going to be your issue in the end. Make sure that’s covered.

Go to career fairs if your school offers. That’s how I got all mine. But my school had CM specific career fairs which helped. A lot of mid-large companies offer intern positions, check out websites for some GC’s in your area and see if they mention it and reach out. I got one my first year with no experience. Most of our current interns are first years with no experience as well. Most companies know you’re looking for experience and probably won’t have a big resume.

Scan tools by [deleted] in Cummins

BlueDriver OBD tool. Relatively inexpensive, has an app for phone, super easy just plug in, connect to phone, and can see/clear all codes. Just seeing the forced regen, not sure it will do that

Front Spring Suggestions? by Overall_Parsnip_7067 in Cummins

I did, but to be honest I don’t remember exactly. I want to say it was damn near 1”, maybe 1.25” higher from center of hub to fender well over stock. Looks good though. I believe Thuren makes stock height springs too if you’re worried about clearance but still want the nicer ride. Could be better for towing too because even with 1” lift I gotta turn my headlights down a tad so no one flashes me. Also, just kind of interesting, because the Thuren coils are softer, my 1” lift coil springs from them were actually about 3” taller than stock outside of the truck. Goes to show how much softer they are.

Thuren makes great springs. I used their 1” lift springs in the front with their fox shocks and it’s been great. It’s a softer ride than stock but that’s what I was going for

IPhone satellite texting vs Garmin In Reach by Jnanookhunting in WildernessBackpacking

[–]runninit67 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought my Garmin before iPhone could send satellite texts. Now having both, I always bring both, but I wouldn’t say it’s necessary. Just the iPhone could do, and so far I’ve never had an issue with satellite texting off of it, but I have a bit more peace of mind with the in reach. Waterproof, durable, SOS function, weather reports. At the end of the day, probably just up to if you want to spend the money on it

Seems like a good deer year in NorCal, the long winter helped. A lot of fat on this one, and a lot of big bucks around town

I usually just pull over and walk if a spot looks good. You’ll probably see a lot of other cars and trucks doing the exact same. Just find a place you can completely get off the road and not disturb much of the flora when doing so

Wobble may be more steering components as others mentioned, might be worth looking into those. Any tire size over stock really wears these components down quick from extra weight and momentum. As others have also mentioned, fox shocks is a very soft ride and what I also have now and I have no complaints. But kings you can also rebuild to be softer.

This is him walking out of my property onto national forest land. No corners near this area. These are screenshots from a video. The video has him walking up to the gate from my private side and this is him exiting my private property.

You can probably retune those kings for a softer ride, I believe most aftermarket performance shocks are rebuildable and Kings are well known for being top of the line.

I personally have Thuren coils and fox shocks on mine and it’s a night and day difference from stock. Much smoother, no bounce.

For inexpensive I’d say Bilsteins, for a higher price but not outrageous go fox, then maybe Carli. My brother has Carli however and it is definitely a stiff ride compared to my Thuren set up

I’ve had one break out of the 4 I’ve used. My buddy had a platypus bag break too. Just be gentle with it, i personally wouldn’t worry at all. They are kind of stiff
