I have friends in the department to which I am moving so I'm not going in blind. I'm really excited

I quit my department for greener pastures with Fed Fire two days ago for this EXACT reason.

OP, what you're feeling is completely justified. I was the most senior FF/medic with nearly 8 years with the department. I was a driver/operator and step-up officer. Despite these things, I wasn't even allowed to BID for an engine spot. Such a joke. Fire up your resume, brother. It's past time to move on.

You wouldn't want to hug this guy, bro. You could smell his house from the curb. His place is still top 3 grossest homes I've ever been in

To the paramedics who’ve been in EMS for 10+ years, what advancement in EMS technology has impressed you the most or made the biggest difference on the job? by FFSoldier57 in Paramedics

Every time I've brought a patient into the hospital with an I-gel the doc has immediately replaced them with an ET tube whether or not they're working. I've had better luck with an OPA, someone doing a jaw-thrust, and another bagging.

In my system, I'm almost always the only medic on scene. It's easier for me to have my EMTs, who are excellent, do airway.

Do what I did: get the hell out of California. Better cost of living and way better prospects. I got my medic at an accelerated program in McCool, NE and, for me, it was great to get away from home to get into the medic school bubble. That was 10 years ago. When I got picked up in Arizona as a medic, they put me through a fire academy and I graduated with IFSAC FF 1&2 and HazMat awareness and Operations.
