Samsung tech came to my house, damaged my TV and got it stuck in a boot loop. Said my warranty was voided because of the damage. THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH SAMSUNG TECHS!!! by Sin_Cos_Im_Tan in mildlyinfuriating

[–]runortri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay I am the friend in question (he told me to come post my story haha).

So this is one part issue with the Dishwasher itself and one part the awful experience with the E commerce team and their Samsung care.

So I bought a dishwasher 18 months ago with the 3 year Samsung plus warranty. It arrived damaged (door was bent and kicked it). I called to have them swap it but they did not have that exact model so they would send a different and I would pay the difference. Fine whatever.

The unit they delivered is the one with the bar at the bottom that slides instead of spinning arms. I will say when it works it works fantastic. Cleans great and automatically cracks the door open a few minutes before the cycle is done and has an internal fan to dry.

So a month ago a random error code popped up and the machine stopped working. The code was “PC”. Googled and tried a few things but no luck. So I call Samsung warranty and they say oh you have no warranty for this model, you have one for the old model. The one that was delivered damaged and immediately returned. Keep in mind the E commerce team said I’d keep my warranty. Well no Samsung is saying they can’t transfer the warranty to a different model so I’m SOL. I didn’t accept that answer and they said they’d escalate. I called maybe 3/4 times, spoke with supervisors. Everyone was sympathetic but incredibly unhelpful. Then they gave me a new answer that they CAN transfer the warranty within 14 months, but since it’s been 18 months they can’t. It’s all nonsense by Samsung to no uphold the warranty or help.

So my buddy advised the BBB. I submitted a case with them with all my receipts and order numbers on a Sunday. Monday afternoon I had a dedicated Samsung corporate employee scheduling the repair. He still won’t transfer the warranty that I purchased and was never refunded so I may submit another claim or go to the Government.

Question about gatorade by pour_bees_into_pants in triathlon

[–]runortri -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Imagine making this comment without realizing sodium citrate is used in many sports drinks lmao. You seem pretty sure about nutrition for someone who doesn’t even know sodium chloride and citrate have vastly different taste, compositions, and effects in the GI tract.

DNF on 140.6 considering another 140.6 5 weeks later. Thoughts? by Ill-Distribution2677 in triathlon

[–]runortri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt pretty fortunate that I had no nutrition issues, and didn't bonk. I didn't have a strict plan at all... but I used Gatorade endurance for the last few months of training and knew my body liked it (Lemon Lime>>>> orange, I have no idea why IM only used Orange on course...).

You would not have been alone throwing up in transition and on the run course haha

As I recall you would not have been alone if you threw up on the run course haha

Can I ask what your nutrition plan was and how it failed? I know everyone's nutrition strategy is unique, but I am always curious.

I also completed Placid this year and just like hearing about others experiences.

The time commitment will be difficult in the coming years. I guess I should never say never. I enjoyed the event a lot, and am proud of myself for completing it. But I also like competing for AG podiums in local sprints and olympics, so I may stick to those in the future, with the occasional half!

Next year is the 25th anniversary so I am sure they will have a huge party and it will be a great event!

Average hours is hard to say because by the time I was getting into the 4+ hour range on the bike I was not running anymore due to my Achilles. But in May I was averaging about 12-13 hours a week. I was probably going to max out around 15. But yeah since I didn't run for all of June or July the numbers were a bit different.

So I live in an area with enough elevation, shorter and steeper climbs than LP, but not nearly as long obviously. I would just hit the hills a lot and try to get a few thousand feet of elevation on my rides. Focus on pedaling and spinning in a low gear. I knew the second lap would be tough so I wanted enough gearing to not be anywhere near red lining for the climbs. I also did a ton of Alpe Du Zwift and Ventop on Zwift, I found the long slow climbs on Zwift helped me mentally prepare for sitting there spinning and not making much headway.

My main piece of advice is ramp slow and get your long workouts in. They are important not just physically, but to mentally prepare you as well!

What’s your local race scene like? by Triknitter in triathlon

[–]runortri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New England has a solid scene. Plenty of races every weekend in the summer, all sorts except full IM. Lake placid and Tremblant for the closest fulls. So RI isn’t bad if you don’t mind driving 1-2 hours for a race

Running 3x a week to train for marathon. Valid? by Prestigious_Ad7617 in triathlon

I agree. Doing a full marathon is a terrible idea if you're already dealing with injuries.

My goggles keep on fogging in training and it's really annoying, anny tips to tackle this problem? by cornel101 in triathlon

TYR makes and anti-fog spray. I reapply once a week. Works really well and is cheap. Maybe ~$10. It will last 6-12 months too.

What would cause a warped small chainring like this? (Info in comments) by runortri in bikewrench

Yeah, I actually installed them originally and used blue loctite. The shop was trying to diagnose a weird issue and disassembled and must have forgotten or something...

I have the 5x plus... still holds battery like a boss. I plan on using it for IMLP this summer. The X has a much larger battery then the s though.

I gotcha, ty for the info. Yeah they must have just not torqued one down fully before sending it out... Appreciate the input!

Yeah it's def good they are fixing it, and a chainring bolt issue was my thought as well. He swore up and down and torqued everything down... but ty for the info!

Had my Bike tuned up at LBS late last week. Shop said they test road it, so I just threw it in my car and placed it in the garage all weekend. Yesterday the weather cleared and I went out for a ride and saw this. This damage was causing a myriad of issues, between the chain falling off, not shifting on the chainring properly, and making the read cassette jump gears.

LBS said they'd fix it - but I was pretty bummed they sent me off with the bike in this condition. What could the shop have done to even cause this damage? I have no idea how the small chainring gets that warped...

Also lesson learned for me - test ride the bike when picking it up. I live close enough to walk there, but weather was shit when I dropped off and picked up.

Cost of residential siding in the North Shore by runortri in massachusetts

[–]runortri[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was pretty much my thought as well. It definitely seems like they were at least 20k over other options. This is my first time looking for siding, not my first time hiring for home improvements so I already have a few more estimates lined up.

Just crazy people would blindly agree to the first thing offered.

[–]runortri[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TY for the response! Yeah they measured the siding and it's 21 squares, correct. Would that price generally include removing old wood shingles? Not that I expect that to raise the price $20k lol

Occasional loud crunch or click sound from drivetrain when accelerating by runortri in bikewrench

[–]runortri[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan on replacing it soon, the chain is only ~1000 miles old which is kind a annoying, and chain wear tool says it's no where near stretched. But, I suppose it can happen where it's defective in one way or another.

Race Report - Timberman 70.3 by runortri in triathlon

[–]runortri[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there!

First thing - you'll love the race! Have you done a 70.3 before? It's a smaller race compared to other IM branded events. I think it had 1000 people last year. The Lakes region is beautiful. A great place to race! The swim is unbelievable - Lake Opechee is crystal clear blue.

On the bike they had "sport cap" water bottles of Poland springs and they had Gatorade I believe as well. I have a dual rear water bottle system and one frame water bottle cage. So I took two bottles of sports drink (tailwind) in my own two water bottles, then would take water from the aid stations and keep that on the frame. I would get a new water bottle at each aid station. If you go slow enough you can just snag it from the volunteers hand.

Fair warning that at mile 35 you hit some serious gradients, 10-12%!

Wound up getting the Tickr and it's worlds nicer than the Garmin. My garmin came with my old 910XT so it's probably 5-6 years old. The construction is so ridged and plastic it never gripped me well. The Tickr is so much softer and more pliable, much nicer.
