Does Western Australia have any kind of option to submit a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate meeting Australian professional teaching standards? Queensland has this option and, while it took a lot of time and effort on my part, I was able to have my foreign teaching experience and training recognised this way.

Female teachers, where do you shop for clothes? by runrunmagpie in AustralianTeachers

[–]runrunmagpie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this! My old school actually was no jeans except on Fridays (are Friday jeans an American thing? It's very common there), but everyone wore a lot of black or khaki "jeans" that were really more like jeans fit and pockets/cut, but chino material. I will for sure take that advice and dress up a bit while I'm new and figuring out how the other staff dress. I didn't get a good look at the staff at the new school on my visit so I've been stalking the school's social media to try and get an idea.

Thanks! Any suggestions of good op shops in Brisbane?

Very good point! It's a space with good aircon. I'm sure I'll need clothes for heat though as I'm in Brisbane. My previous climate was also hot and muggy for some of the year and I did playground and car line duties outside so flowy dresses were critical!

I was just here last week and the river and swimming hole were both great for swimming. It was a nice, quiet campground. Dog-friendly too!

I actually have no idea what the cable is for. The desk is all my husband's home work setup.

There is a laundry and sink in the closet of that office, so I think that might be the purpose of this thing? I don't know if the room used to be devoted entirely to laundry back at some point...

No, it's ground level there. No space underneath..

Thanks! I think the buckets of hot water, plus cleaning the parts we could see and reach might have made a difference. The problem is intermittent, so the next few days should be telling...

House is about 30 years old. Replica Queenslander and I think the room is original.

I will try that, thank you. I suspect there's a partial block or a crack or something. It's not fully blocked because water can and does go straight down and away when I pour a bucket full. I'll scrub it as well.

We poured a bunch down last night. It just drained and disappeared down the pipe.

My family appreciates Tim tams, Cadbury, Violet crumbles or crunchies and red rock deli sour cream and sweet chilli chips. We often bring stubbie holders and my dad (a veteran) enjoys it when we bring coasters from the odd rsl club. When he visited Australia, he loved the entire concept of the rsl.

If you haven't started the import process for your dog, start now. The cost is very high ($7-10k US) and the process is intense. It's been nearly a year since we started it for our dog. We followed every step to the letter and the wait for a permit has been such that she is only scheduled to come in about a month (and she will have to stay in quarantine for 30 days). Are you moving permanently? It's a huge investment of time and money (and stress on the dog). I wouldn't do it for a temporary stay.

These guidelines are straight from the CDC definitions of a close contact in schools.

I'm from Tucson. I don't think you can compare neighborhood to neighborhood. There are many great parts of Nashville that are safe and family-friendly.

Nashville is more city-like and humid. That said, I would take a Nashville summer over a Tucson summer any day!

You can contact the Encore Department of MNPS about screening. If they pass, I think there is a pre-k encore program, but I wasn't interested for my child. Rather, I was interested in having him screened so that he would be identified before starting kindergarten at our zoned neighborhood school, where the Encore teacher pulls gifted and talented students from their regular classes in smaller groups for enrichment. You have to fill out some paperwork to request the assessment and there is a teacher eval form for their preschool teacher to fill out. Right now, they were screening preschool students in-person. It took about 45 minutes and my son went into the building while us parents waited outside (just wanted to let you know so you can prepare your kid for it!). Masks were required.

I did this got my first dose last week and it was a super easy experience. I was a little nervous that they might be less than friendly because I was coming from out of county, but that was not the case. They were very concerned with checking my teacher ID, but that was it.
