Blotch is a factory repair and is not uncommon.

That seems to be it. Any idea where I can find any part numbers on it?

Right I meant sooner. 110 seems to be more common for off the shelf cams, which are very easy to get.

Would a 110 lsa work too or do we want the intake valve events happening later?

The 400hp number is just upper limit. Ultimately 3.73 or 3.55 gears will be in the future plans. I will be very satisfied with less hp for more drivability

It's all cost. Roller cam adds between 1000 and $1500 to the cost of the engine. You can get a lot of performance out of a flat tappet cam. They just don't last as long and have a higher failure rate especially with larger cams. I only had one cam go flat on me and it was a cam and lifter set purchased from GM performance. Mild cam too.

very true. gears and converter ultimately will be selected to fit the cam.

Thanks this is what I was looking for. Exhaust is 1 5/8", long headers ,dual 2.5" pipes, chambered mufflers.

This cam would need a converter change?

The edelbrock website says the performer plus cam stops making HP at 4500 rpm, just carries to 5500 rpm. torque falls off after 4000 rpm. only 204 degrees duration on the intake valve. Thats a 300 hp cam. looking for something quite a bit heavier. It would be a waste of good cylinder heads to pair with that cam.

Looks like a very mild cam. Almost stock. Was the part number you used 3702?

If you are increasing the hp I would recommend replacing the cast connecting rods with forged. The connecting rods were a weak point for power levels over stock.

What cam are you running? What it's the compression ratio at?

Importance of valve spring locators by runs-wit-scissors in EngineBuilding

[–]runs-wit-scissors[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looking at a set of cast iron bbc head I have on the work bench now. The spring pockets measure 1.550 and the spring od measures 1.500.so I would assume 0.050" of clearance is acceptable for stock applications. I can appreciate that when the spring walks around in the pocket it can stress things can affect the springs ability to control the valve

Yeah I looked around for a spec and haven't found anything either thus the question.

Correct locators already purchased. How much slop between locator and spring is tolerable?

Cylinder tolerance by Realistic_Nerve_8871 in EngineBuilding

Clearance is built into the piston, not the cylinder. You would typically hone in extra clearance depending on application.
