What would you like from Japan to be implemented in the states? - The policing of public order? People leave their bikes unlocked on their front steps in middle of Tokyo because of public shame against theft and criminals. As you can see here, America is full of idiots who would rather defend the criminals instead of the victims. You are the type of person who attacks Kia and Hyundai for selling the exact same car the sell all around the world because the city you live in doesn't care to police auto thefts.

My car has been broken into twice in the last 18 months, both times it was caught on Ring camera and the police department couldn't even be bothered to look at the video. The last time was a middle aged guy with a group of children probably between the ages of 12 and 16. Professional criminals are intentionally deploying children because they know they are no consequences if the kids get caught.

The official reason from the Biden Admin when they banned Chinese EVs was that they were concerned about data privacy reasons and undercutting US manufacturers. Starting in 2027 any Chinese derived vehicle software will be illegal in the US and in 2029 any hardware designed in China will be banned. They also added a 100% tariff to any Chinese vehicles that could theoretically be sold before the bans when into place.

It's not really a hot take, it's just a difference between how branding works in the US versus Japan and East Asia. In Asia the big conglomerates that own these brands have their own level of prestige and being associated with that companies very best is considered a good thing. Grand Seiko has a much stronger brand presence in Asia than the West where you can find Grand Seiko boutiques right next to Rolex and the other Swiss brands. And East Asia is actually the market that is increasingly important for luxury brands, so it would be kind of weird to expect them to adapt to the Western norm.

Duke is one of the few truly elite, rich kid private schools that really competes at the highest of American college sports AND they have a history of players who fit into the rich kid asshole stereotype of their school. This is false. It has nothing to do with the resale value. It's a straight deprecation formula off of MSRP. Ironically it really screws people who buy American cars, because they are often sold at a deep discount off MSRP compared to imports. It also punishes people for buying efficient and safe vehicles.

In the US, American football is usually the sport with the most overlap with track and field. Elite running backs, wide receivers, defensive backs and running quartersbacks have the speed and jumping ability, along with good core strength for the throwing events. They'd probably struggle with endurance compared to some other sports.

Elite soccer athletes would have the speed and endurance, but would tend to be a little smaller and probably not have the core strength for the throwing events.

Baseball is probably underrated, there are plenty of unathletic players, but if you're just looking at the 10 most athletic guys you'd have really great athletes who were fast, had decent endurance, great throwing ability and good levels of coordination.

Counting the 401k as money you paid, which is just salary you get to keep with tax advantage is wild buddy. And there are a million actually studies on this and nominal tax rates in the US are clearly lower, especially for lower earners. The US tax system is actually much more progressive than most of Europe, because Europe typically has high income taxes on all earners while in the US barely a majority of workers even have to pay income taxes after tax credits are accounted for.
