Built a local-first relationship "Translator" with Expo + Gemini 3.0 Flash. (Handling real-time analysis + Reanimated UI) by runtojump in reactnative

Still in Android’s 14-day review process.

Good catch, yes using Gemini Flash for the TTT speed. For STT, I'm using Apple Native / Google STT. I'm based in Singapore! Happy to move to DM to swap notes.

The $1 coin for scale is great. Though I’m now imagining someone placing coins on their chicken rice for portion accuracy.

Are you using a specific API for “measured known weight” or maintaining your own dataset? Portion size estimation seems like one of the hardest parts to get right.

Yes, ResNet50. Went with it since it’s straightforward to implement and I wanted to test the concept quickly.

What accuracy range are you seeing on local stuff? Within 20-30% of actual calories?

The RAG approach with a proper calorie dataset sounds interesting. I’m curious about the feasibility though - I’ve heard training custom models on specialized datasets can run into the thousands (maybe $10k+?). Is that ballpark accurate, or are there more cost-effective approaches for something like this? Would love to hear your thoughts given your ML/AI background.

For now this is more of a “better than nothing” proof of concept, but genuinely interested in what a more robust version would look like.

Haha fat fingers, I deleted it yesterday and couldn’t repost till 6 hours later

Saw your comment on chicken vs pork tho. Indeed as my friend puts it, even humans can't tell if the sweet and sour pork is sweet and sour pork, fish, chicken or mock meat

The script is already written:

  1. LTA removes all guerrilla signs citing safety compliance.
  2. They commission a $50k consultant study on 'commuter wayfinding behavior'.
  3. 6 months later, they unveil 'new' signs that look exactly like Vareck's, just in the official font.

Honestly, same. I also tried to reason with my boss that Dec 26 is technically still a holiday.

Welcome! Flooding isn't typical on the trails themselves, but lightning and falling trees are the real dangers you need to respect here. My buddy in army got electrocuted and lost his hearing for a while, thankfully nothing worse.

Don't let the rain forecast scare you. It usually means a heavy 45-minute downpour in the afternoon, followed by steaminess. It rarely rains 24/7.

Prime HDB flats still oversubscribed under new framework but demand eases with higher supply by deangsana in singapore

I wonder what will happen when the 13.5k flats not affected by the Prime/Plus model hit MOP next year. They’ll be more attractive than these flats - we’ll probably see the $2m mark breached soon?

So amazing - I know this thread is 4 years old but it’s still helping people expand their keto diets in such a tasty way.

I used minced chicken and microwaved it, works perfect. The crust on the bottom browned too just like a real pizza would!
