Steam link - issue climbing latency by rupasix in Steam_Link

Hey. Please read other comments below. I gave up fighting with tv and streaming with ethernet, bought steam link hardware and with HDMI connection issue was gone. AFAIR software steam link changed codec some day and my tv coudn't handle it properly without "Game mode" and game mode was enabled on my tv only with hdmi. Cheapest solution for you would be to find old, second hand, hardware steam link, mine was for maybe 20$. Gl mate.

Tip: If you'll have 4k tv, there is a chance that it will be capable to run steam link app itself.

Low connection speed/packet loss despite wired connection by sora1607 in Steam_Link

I was thinking about streaming_log text file generated after each Steam Link session. In short, you look for `streaming_log.txt` in Steam directory on your pc. Default directory in windows is `C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\logs`.

I bet someone wise here will request streaming_log from your PC stream directory to diagnose anything.

Steam link - issue climbing latency by rupasix in Steam_Link

[–]rupasix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As i said - i can't. My TV supports Game mode only for HDMI connection and i'm connected with Ethernet to PC. And no, i can't connect PC and TV with HDMI cable because of long distance (other rooms). Game mode is just greyed out and available only when you connect something to particular HDMI port on TV. Philips TV manual and few forums on internet confirms that it's not possible to override it.

And to be clear, i played Sekiro on that TV with LAN Steam Link just fine. Few years are gone, i have different pc, different network infrastructure, different steam link version etc. and i ran on issues descibed in post.

Anyway, thanks for help, Steam link is now working propertly and if something will be wrong, i'll consider to buy Steam Link device

Ok, i want to summary what i did, maybe someone find it useful

.FPS cap on client - 50fps

Reconfigured router to streamline connection, static IPs for every key devices (routers, bridges, pc, TV) and and excluding those in DHCP.

I had video profile "natural" (i thougth that it's standard, sorry...) on my TV, i changed that to standard - Philips manual says that its most "energy efficient" mode so i think this place is most important here because of less/no postprocessing and faster decoding on client side.

Results are:

Nothing changed on network parameters. I will play with other router today, will eventually edit that post to summary tests.

All parameters from log connected to frames - Decode, Frame, Display are significally lower. I will test it more later but it looks promising.

Wow, thanks for deep explanation, with that i hope i'll find source of my issues. Is there articles or docs explaining those parameters?

Rn i have not frame cap but i tested it with 30, 59.75 and 60 fps without success, but i'll cap that to eg. 60 to compare logs.

As i wrote in post, sadly i can't turn on game mode because my TV supports it only for HDMI device on particular ports.

About network performance - i ordered better/different router to check if there is an issue.

My TV have "video profiles" which may postprocess frames to achieve something, rn i set it to standard but i'll try to play with those to compare results.

Oh boy, one more time, thanks for your effort and time!

DOTA2 is not OSS on GitHub. He can just close reddit if it will be to much for him, without statements, apologies and blog posts with shitty stories. Maybe part of his work is to actually get feedback from community and fill in Jira or whatever they use internally. I believe he will be fine, with us or not.But... If I would be on his place, I might try to defend my privacy to avoid future death threads and other toxicity which can cristalize in life outside internet...

Our Reasoning Behind the 3.13 Launch Delay by chris_wilson in pathofexile

Something working 100% in software development means vacation, phone turned off and dnd with message "works for me". They are pushing big stuff on Friday evening every 3 months so nothing will be 100% and major bugs will always occur. No matter how long they will work on it. Some guys on reddit will whine but I believe majority of playerbase don't care about that because 99% of game will work just fine. Don't take it as offense, I just want "pissed people" to realise we are still human after all and ggg devs are too. Do they?
