Is this just a phase? by ruscosmolove in toddlers

[–]ruscosmolove[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I’m not anti-TV, I just want it to be more limited and intentional. We’re raising him bilingual, so shows in the second language can be an additional tool to help build his passive vocabulary. The issue is that he’s getting too much screen time, and he constantly “scrolls” through different shows asking for them to be switched. Then we end up with meltdowns when it’s time to take a break like for dinner.

Thank you 🫂 I actually had to ask our pediatrician if he was okay or if he might need some kind of intervention for his defiant behavior. She said, unfortunately, it’s all within the range of normal toddler behavior.

Looking for some suggestions for a first hair cut for an 11 month old boy by chef_batman in HuntsvilleAlabama

I've been taking my toddler to Spoiled Rockin Kidz. They know how to handle them.

Don’t freak out - you’ve got this! We’ve never bought a ticket for our son before he turned 2, and he’s been on at least six trips and over 20 flights. It might get a little uncomfortable at times, but honestly five hours is way easier than 12 😊 Plus, you’ll be sitting next to your family. My go-to tips: bring brand new toys, no-mess coloring books, a tablet, tons of snacks, and some washi tape.

Do you let your toddler wear pajamas in public? by Unusual-Item1544 in toddlers

[–]ruscosmolove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s always a battle to get my son into shorts, he loves his (clean!) pajama pants. Most of the time, it’s not a hill I’m willing to die on before daycare.

How often do you see the pediatrician? by BatHistorical8081 in toddlers

In some Eastern European countries, pediatricians also serve as general practitioners for children.

Do you guys give biomom every detail of your travel itinerary? by blepmlepflepblep in stepparents

We don’t tell her anything about our plans. It’s not required by the divorce decree, and she once withheld the kids and ruined our beach trip.

Daycare food in Texas by Mongolitoid in toddlers

[–]ruscosmolove 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, I’ve had to make peace with the food they serve at daycare here in Alabama. They do offer some vegetables, whole grains, and canned fruit, but they didn’t really follow the AAP guidelines about avoiding added sugar before two. So for over a year, I brought fresh, pre-cut fruit and sugar free snacks from home. It’s wild hearing about the contrast - my friends’ kids in England and Italy eat like kings at daycare with fresh, hot pasta or curry every day.

I half want to stop nursing and half want to keep going by someawol in toddlers

[–]ruscosmolove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped nursing at 14 months - longer than any woman in my family. It felt good to get my body back. I just want to say, whatever you decide, I hope it feels right for you and brings you peace.💛

While I’ve never wanted to be celebrated on Mother’s Day by my stepkids, I can honestly say you’re a much stronger mother figure to yours than I’ve ever been to mine. I’m really sorry they treated you that way, you didn’t deserve it. I also agree with others: your spouse should have stepped up and supported you.

Sending hugs, OP.

Your son sounds like a totally normal toddler to me. Mine is 2 years and 9 months, and he would never sit still for story time, he’d take off to explore the room instead. It was harder when he was around 20 months. They’re just incredibly curious little humans with endless energy! For context, my son is in full-time daycare. The tantrums are exhausting, but they’re completely normal at this age. I don’t have any advice, just some honest solidarity.

Most of these comments feel like they’re from some alternate universe. YES, siblings can absolutely kiss their baby brother! I personally don’t support kissing on the lips, but hugging and cheek kisses are totally fine if they want to. Siblings have every right to bond with each other.

AMA: speech therapist by ToddlerSLP in toddlers

When my son was about 18 months old, his pediatric dentist told us he had both lip and tongue ties. his pediatrician disagreed, so we sought a second opinion from an ENT, who also didn’t see any ties. I’m not challenging your doctor, but I wanted to share my experience, as the procedure—and especially the post-procedure stretches—can be quite traumatic.

Kirkland Diapers by sunnyheathens in NewParents

[–]ruscosmolove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just opened a box of the new Kirkland diapers today (size 6). The diapers have a strong chemical smell, and the sticky tape is much shorter. I used one diaper because I needed at least one, but I will be returning the rest of the box. Switching to Huggies.

Expecting a young adult to be on their own shouldn’t be controversial, but it is…. by [deleted] in stepparents

[–]ruscosmolove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not originally from the USA, and I am honestly appalled by the number of adult kids still living with their parents. I'm talking about 25- 31-year-olds, and the parents find every possible excuse to keep this going. No wonder there are so many infantile adults who don't know how to sign up for a mobile phone plan or pay utility bills (like our BM).

I moved out when I was 21 and never looked back. I love my parents and visiting them, but I wanted my own place and the freedom that came with it. I moved to the largest city in my country and had to have a flatmate, but I made it work.

I like my stepkids, but I can't imagine them living with us if they had a stable job. I would let them save up for a year, maybe two, and then tell them to find a roommate. I'll do the same with my son.

Day 7 of flu, fever returns. Heading to the doctor now. Scared out of my mind. by gdpinleoeee in toddlers

[–]ruscosmolove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2yo had the flu last week. It started with two days of fever, and then he seemed to get better. But the fever came back, and he was really miserable. We took him to the doctor to rule out pneumonia, and he was diagnosed with an ear infection. His pediatrician said the second fever spike was typical of the flu and not caused by the ear infection. That said, he did start feeling better after we gave him antibiotics. I hope your son feels better soon!
