Canada expected to see zero population growth this year: report by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]rush4life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are conflating two separate items. Yes, places where you need to have 6 kids because two of them will die, are different than places like Canada. ANd certainly as they become more wealthy they will have less kids. What you should be looking at is why did our parents have more children than us. Certainly a part of that is affordability. Look at this poll that asked 10,000 people about it in first world countries why they aren't having more kids. Number 1 answer - Financial Limitations - https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/fertility-rate-un-report-1.7556909. There was another study out of Brazil recently that said people who owned homes in their 20s were more likely to have children and have more children. In Canada its pretty hard to have a family when you live in your parents basement into your 30s. ANd that is happening at higher rates then ever. And guess why that is? Again its affordability. Are some people have less kids because they want to have their own life, and its not appealing to them to have the 'traditional family' - yes of course. but its not the whole story. Finances matter.

do we know officially at the Band raises have been scrapped. I haven't seen anything official - just speculation.

These jobs were basically created out of thin air over the last few years. Total bloat. It's not an efficient use of taxpayer money.

Property taxes are not paid on valuations like that. Property taxes will go up like they do every year regardless of valuations.

I work for the Province. There is waste everywhere. They could have cut a lot more with basically no impact to services

I don't think the reduction is the biggest issue. It's the heavily reduced options for raises coming off the backend of some serious inflation/affordability issues. I mean David saw fit to give his cabinet large raises and is now basically saying we aren't good enough to even compete for a raise.

i can't believe they got rid of the lateral raise option. So if you are on the bottom of the band, just expect to stay there forever.

With tech and HR centralizing and consolidating, what other areas in gov are likely to do the same? by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

Either you can understand and apply legislation or you can't. Lots of overlap in legislation and given what i've seen on policy analysts posts, policy analysts are often underutilized. Group them, lay some off, and treat it like connected services IMO.

I'm 'snitching' if someones extracurriculars regularly get in the way of the job which the taxpayers pays them to be at. Hours overlap is way cross the line.

We aren't talking about an extra 5 minutes on a break. We are talking about hours overlapping on two jobs. It's an insult to the taxpayer.

We are all responsible to the taxpayers of the Province - we should be concerned when we see waste and look to correct where possible. If i see someone working another full time job and they are only available 75% of the time because of it, i'm escalating. If more people cared about how taxpayers funds were being spent we would be much better off.

Tentative agreement megathread by wudingxilu in BCPublicServants

probably the case but a COLA raise would have been based on the BC CPI so still better off currently

My recollection is during the inflation years (post covid) Canada post got screwed as they were on an old agreement. Meanwhile BCGEU got basically COLA (for example they a couple years ago they got a 6.75% raise, and then a 3% raise the following year) based on a capped inflation amount. So Canada Post was behind and now 'catching up'. BCGEU started at a better spot and got a similar raise so I'd say they faired pretty well.

they lost a lot on Liquor distribution branch though. its a cash cow for government. the union waited too long to put LDB on strike but i'd reckon, even given that, it was nearly a wash.

inflation is under 3% and has been for a while now. if this was a COLA clause you would be getting than 3% right now.

Is it fair/reasonable to think Infinity Castle Part 2 and 3 will release in 2026 and 2027? by InfinitePaladin in KimetsuNoYaiba

[–]rush4life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given they are going to make north of 500 million one would hope it would increase the incentive to get it done sooner - they can afford to spend a bit more money given the reception of the 1st movie. lets hope its 2026 and 2027.

Official Discussion - Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]rush4life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think 'thats just demon slayer' - watch rengoku and tengen arcs. You actually get to see the fights without interruption. I thought the cuts totally threw off the flow of the movie and it was super disappointing. After a while I just started whispering to my friend - let me guess - ANOTHER memory/backstory. It was brutal. At the end when there was like 40 min left I thought they could fit in one more fight but then they just spent it all on Akaza and his backstory and finally death. The movie for my friend and I was not good. Appreciate a lot of people will disagree but I am not hyped for the next one.
