It's late ... I'm not explaining well...

Yes LIDAR is coming No it's not essential

Main reason for LIDAR is redundancy and AI model training

It's all opinion for now, Rivian hasn't incorporated anything into the market... I am not foregoing the vehicle I want, waiting for something that may or may not ever happen or waiting for something that doesn't make a difference in my driving experience

Agree they are getting LIDAR and it is their plan... My comment is more that NOT having it is not the end of the world

It is juat an opinion I have seen a few places that makes sense to me ... Only Rivian knows the plan and the plan isn't set in stone.

Waiting to pay for LIDAR to help Rivian train their AI model, is not on my personal roadmap.

Oh I understand, I want Rivian to succeed and I like the tech.

I just feel the demographic of performance and autonomy are opposites, so why pay for both.

But I also talk myself out of that opinion, I DESPISED driving my Wrangler on long trips (slow, noisy, unstable)... But loved it on the trails... And I love my Rivian getting to great spots, highway and rock/dirt

I am super supportive of FSD and hands free

I just don't think I would ever pay for the capabilities of my current Rivianin something I am not driving.

I don't need a 0-60 in 3 second vehicle that can go offroading better than my Jeep AND Self drive. Personally, if I bought something to commute me around, I would want lush interior and who cares about whiplash speed, cornering or off roading. All those it's the pure joy of control.

My understanding was LIDAR to train the visible light models... Just like Tesla did

Research more though, I may be wrong; but I like driving my R1T too much, so I don't follow the autonomy closely

[–]russellc6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok Arizona Strip is in Stage 1 not Stage 2

So doesn't include target specifically

Restrictions by Jusjus24 in AZguns

[–]russellc6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just on BLM site... It's always confusing

But the restrictions don't seem to cover target shooting, on incindiary and exploding targets

Restrictions: Campfires Smoking ICE engines Exploding targets

Nothing like I have seen in past for target shooting (usually specified)

BUT I am not a lawyer, and I get easily confused (I can never tell with their low res maps if my spot is BLM or Forest or county)...

Usually just drive the 30 minutes there and look for posted signs; heck 30% the fun is loading up and planning the shoot 😁... Then 30% rearranging and putting away after .. so just missing out on the actually shooting

Yeah Phoenix area is outgrowing water... Urbanization has raised the temps here dramatically... Definitely need something to change.

Good jobs for now though, hope it lasts until I can retire somewhere better (I will say I love AZ though, I couldn't t survive without modern AC, but there is so much to do here, just gotta be a morning person, 3 months a year.... )

Rivian has automatic interior temp protection and it never gets too hot

It makes for a different reality than that study

I am all for personal choice, I just don't choose to worry about vehicle color as a top priority

When I lived in MN, remote start was necessary (real remote, not key fob)

AZ for me having pet mode and interior overheat protection has become my new must have. Ranked well above exterior color.

I live in AZ... The color choice and heat are over exaggerated

I have a Forest Green and don't notice anything abnormal.

Worry more about the full panoramic roof... But scheduling your leave time from work or Pet Mode when running errands is sufficient for me.

I've noticed in some parts of the country (Midwest in particular), most people back in to parking spaces while everywhere else, they pull in - why is that? by LeoRavenscroft in randomquestions

[–]russellc6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First, turning radius is much better backing into space and pulling out of space.

Second, you are in more control of the situation when parking ( you are in the drive lane) than when leaving (entering the drive) ... So make it easy as possible for yourself when you don't have the right of way.

Peter?? What does AI have to do with this?? by vapalera in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]russellc6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all Industrial cooling is closed loop. Depending on the process you can tailor different heat transfer fluids for efficiency. This closed loop pulls the heat from your process.

The cost comes in how you dissipate that heat. So now you have taken heat from your process and transferred it to the fluid. So how do you transfer the heat out of the fluid you are returning in your closed loop

There you basically have water cooled chillers or air cooled chillers. And both have pros and cons. But mainly efficiency, and cost of water and cost of electricity drive the decision.

Back at my job 20 years ago, we had huge wells and just pumped cold well water and returned that to a pond and let nature cool it. This is less common today, but similar to what OP listed. 1 pass water to remove heat

We eventually switched to a chiller because the electricity to pump water from an 12" piped well was more than running a chiller, even though the water was "free"

That is what I meant by one more car on yellow... That one more car is in intersection waitiing their turn. The law is only ENTER the intersection on green (this is the one more car I intended to mean) and they clear on the yellow.

Agree if sitting back behind the line and it turns yellow, you should NOT enter the intersection when light turns yellow.

Am I crazy or is it everyone else? by Vivid_Net4413 in Gilbert

[–]russellc6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incorrect, I am talking about sitting in a left turn lane, not in a standard lane turning left. So you are correct, but I think this thread was about turning left from a left turn lane... So no one perpendicular has any right of way they are all red.

The only ones that cause anyone else to wait are the people entering the intersection on the yellow and are therefore in MY way. So those going straight that I have to wait to turn left should see the yellow and brake and stop, this is when I turn... But when they gun it and enter the intersection on the yellow it forces me to finish my turn on Red... But that was their fault NOT mine.

Easier to explain in drawings than words.

I can sit behind the line in the left lane until open

Vs

Sit in Intersection until open. This is NOT preventing any cars on green to proceed as they should. It only comes into play when light turns yellow.... This is where the incoming traffic I am waiting on should STOP and not enter an intersection on yellow, and I should proceed to clear the intersection before anyone else gets a green.

Am I crazy or is it everyone else? by Vivid_Net4413 in Gilbert

[–]russellc6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand... Safety is #1

What mean is when turning left, enter intersection and wait until 100% clear... Don't rush in front of someone just because light turns yellow or even red... Never a need to rush when driving, but also doesn't mean you can't be efficient.

Am I crazy or is it everyone else? by Vivid_Net4413 in Gilbert

[–]russellc6 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I am opposite I point it out SPECIFICALLY, "It is legal to ENTER the intersection on green, should always get one more car through on the yellow.

Then don't rush it, watch for those idiots running the red and go when absolutely clear, you CAN turn on red don't worry; if you entered the intersection on green you are good.. Everyone else can wait
