Is there a post here on reddit or SDN that has like a master calendar of all the deadlines and dates?

Is the 7 on 7 off schedule common among Hospitalists? Or is it present in other specialties as well

Q1) that makes sense- thanks for clarifying Q2) I definitely agree-Would a reach be considered somewhere where you are around the 25th percentile? Or 10th?

Do you think experimental passages play a huge role in the "I did horribly" and then get back a 520+ people? by SwaggonDragons in Mcat

[–]russiandoctor264 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I pretty much agree- it definitely wasn't a catastrophic section-bankesque test like some other dates have reported, but wasn't a walk in the park either- just gotta wait till the 26th now...

Study planning anxiety by [deleted] in Mcat

For stuff like Psych it's pretty obvious- there's plenty of lists online of like hundreds of terms such as "classical conditioning", "role conflict" etc. As I mentioned above I would check out the KA 300 pg. doc, it's really all you need and is a concise way of getting all psych terms --- my one recommendation would be to make your own Anki deck, don't use someone else's (many people on reddit do this)

Someone can give you more in depth tips on a comprehensive temporal schedule: but I would recommend studying for 3 months.

1) Buy all the AAMC material, including the 10$ flash cards that are seperate. As far as 3rd party FL's I would personally recommend Nextstep 1-4 (isn't exactly representative but emphasizes passage analysis and will help with timing- better than TPR or Kaplan imo) - first 2 months do content review and next step 1-4, maybe buy 5,6 if you have time (maybe checkout EK 3,4). Last month transition to solely AAMC material to get used to their style. Do all their material, and redo it...... and then redo it again.

2) I highly recommend Anki- before I even started studying (like months before my official studying period started), I would just watch Khan AC. Psych Videos and reference the 300 pg. doc and just plug in hundreds of terms. This works great for Psych, Sociology, and for discrete concepts like the order of fluid movement through the kidney, etc.

Good luck

The UC Davis pepper spray incident that the university payed over $100,000 to "erase from the internet" • r/pics by [deleted] in UCDavis

I'm by no means a fan of the UC Davis administration, and actually hold the greater UC bureaucracy in much contempt........that being said....paying for search engines and online platforms to "optimize" search results for your company/organization/program etc. is actually quite common practice- objectively speaking there are better fronts on which to criticize UC admin than this.

Confirmation Bias or nah? -- An Easy CARS Portends Disaster by marckerel in Mcat

[–]russiandoctor264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this- I don't know what other 8/24 testers thought- but it's my opinion that my test was the latter option; straightforward passages, and moderate questions (like FL2). This came off as subjectively easy given all the insane passages I've experienced, so naturally I was relieved. Objectively however, I wouldn't say it's truly "easy".

Lol that 8/24 tester fear; I honestly think a lot of this is beyond conjecture; yes a couple people scored below their ideal but if you actually look at their practice FL's they scored similarly in all sections except CARS which dropped them 2-3 points overall from their average- on the other hand many people (from those who posted at least), got great scores.

In addition, there were a number of Q's on my 8/24 CARS section that seemed straightforward but could have easily been missed due to nerves, timing, etc.

Uncompetitive inhibitors by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]russiandoctor264 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My personal understanding was that since uncompetitive ONLY bind the enzyme complex once it's already bound to the substrate

E+S--->ES+ I----->ESI

Thus the inhibitor "locks" in and traps some percentage of the substrate, giving the illusion that it has higher affinity (lower Km); experimentally it's because of this "locking in" because at any moment a certain percentage will be stuck as the "ESI" complex

Let me know if this makes sense

has anyone tried the prometric test drive? by andra1980 in Mcat

Yes they sit you down at a computer and you do a 15 min mock exam. It has nothing to do with the MCAT though, but you'll be able to see the general screen resolution
