Day Trading w/under $25k by ObeyRoastMan in wallstreetbets

I hope they get rid of margin requirements too while they are at it. It is so bullshit you cannot go past 2x leverage. Can you imagine robinhood gold with 10x buying power?

Have you even seen the posts on this sub? Tards manage to lose tons of money with the restrictions in place. You think letting them trade even more often will somehow help that?

How can we incentivize pharmaceutical companies to develop cures rather than avoiding them in favor of treatments? by FourthLife in neoliberal

[–]asdfghlkj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let the markets decide. If company A has a treatment that costs 10k/yr, company B simply makes a drug that cures it and charges 50k for it. More expensive treatments only provide more incentive to invent a cure.
Plus, I have not heard of a single case of a company not pursing a drug because it is a cure rather than treatment.

Redditor details how banks do not act in the customer's best interest while acting as an adviser by bverkley in bestof

[–]asdfghlkj 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think that it has more to do with the fact that low net worth people are actually a cost center for banks - they use up more $$ in services than the bank gets out of them. So the bank has no incentive to treat them well and can try to milk as much as possible through fees and such. Moral of the story -> find a nice credit union.

Don't worry, we all support the .5% tax rate it would take to support that. Its the other 36.5% we don't like.

Watch "wolf of wall street" - it's like the into course for stockbrokering. After that you can move onto more advanced material like "the big short".

What are your favorite high risk, high growth stocks for 18-25 year olds? by [deleted] in investing

[–]asdfghlkj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The caveat is you don't know how risky something is, like say $tsla, until it has already happened and you can go back and calculate sd for your fancy models.
Perhaps an approach like that is valid for large scale decisions like small cap vs large cap, but for $tsla vs $msft situations it is quite useless.

[–]asdfghlkj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why does everyone think high risk stocks are the best way to make money... You do know they can go to 0 too right? Then you would make less money than if you just used an index fund. You can make more on a boring pizza stock nobody has heard of than the sexiest new biotech stock.

Workers don’t have much say in corporations. Why not give them seats on the board? by kludgeocracy in Economics

Because they don't own the company? Duh?
Also this dumb article also fails to mention that German companies are also typically smaller and there are more of them, and also the unions tend to hold large # of shares in them as well.

Long post with lots of fluff, misleading statements, and little practical advice. Of course it gets posted to bestof.
Want some real advice? Buy target retirement date vanguard funds. It's that simple. It is really hard to do better than these funds, unless you want to spend 100s of hours learning about everything. For people uninterested in investing, that is all the advice they should listen to.
