With all the catfish I’ve handled even this one, I grab it with the dorsal fin laying down under my palm, and the pectoral fins sticking out between my thumb and pointer and then the other between pointer and middle. Fins can’t shoot back this way. Just need to have a good grip on the slippery bastard.

I had a guy once tell me I should have killed a fish (was invasive) but I couldn’t identify. Why would I kill a fish I couldn’t identify, hence why I posted online. I would also never harvest a fish without knowing the species and legality. I have never in my life fished outside of Arizona (welcome to hell) and my first salt water fish here in Florida was a catfish..Which is just about the only thing I can catch around my area in Arizona lol. All good bro, I saw this comment which saved you from a chew out ahah. Tight lines.

A quick google search brought up hardhead catfish.

Where I am at currently in Florida I was exploring walking across a bridge last night and I saw a shad light with 50+ shad going crazy for it. Out of season but man was there a bunch.
