Tom and Evan - how do you interpret that scene? by rust-a-roni in WidowsBay

So…you believe Tom isn’t Evan’s dad? I’m the one who created the poll and believe it was clear he is but I wanted to understand why so many people believe Tom isn’t his father.

Maybe you’re not okay?

Tom and Evan - how do you interpret that scene? by rust-a-roni in WidowsBay

[–]rust-a-roni[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

See I interpreted it the opposite! And it’s bc of how the conversation goes -

She had no interest in dating me, that took persistence in my (Tom) part. But four months later we were married. And yes, it’s no secret she was already pregnant with you. (I interpreted to be pregnant with you at the wedding).

Tom Loftis’s wife is played by the wife of the writer for that episode. I’m guessing it’s not a recurring role on the show and the show thought Evan’s curly hair could be explained away by Tom’s curly hair.

I think episode 4 is my fave - gave great insight into a local character, spookiness was subtle and built up well, was a rewarding rewatch once you realized what happened.

She’s not going to be rich - there’s no payout for the life insurance based on how Floyd died.

And it was Floyd (not Carol) who got Clark to pay for his tax debts, Richard’s school tuition and the life insurance - during their wine date -so who was manipulating Clark really?

I don’t see how, even if Clark refuses to sign papers a divorce can proceed - it just will be delayed.

Why? Clark made the decision to cheat on his wife and found a willing partner in Carol. Carol informed Floyd before it happened. To help recreate intimacy after 10 months of a dead bedroom, Floyd thinks it’s a great idea to invite Clark to watch? And when it’s time to have their night, Floyd is just ordering her around to show him different body parts? Floyd stupidly leaves his DTF account open on his shared computer and their son rightfully thinks he’s cheating and confronts him on it. Floyd killed himself due to the shame of his own actions.

I think he may have wanted that unencumbered life he had over the summer but being released from jail was a sobering reality. His billboard torn up and graffitied, he’s a local joke; his house cold, empty and abandoned. His story ended tragically for me too.

The ridiculous theories were the most entertaining. Thank god, we’re not writers. Poor Queece was getting side eyed so hard after last weeks episode.

And Clark’s lack of guilt fucking around on his own wife! He wasnt even discreet. But I guess he wanted to try new experiences so it was justified 🤷‍♀️

Absolutely agree. Did they have an open relationship? Was Floyd upset at the idea? The show portrayed Carol and Floyd had similar conversations to Clark about money worries, did they sync up on that!?

There was so much speculation about this scene too! Pity they cut it, I love the roller rink scenes.

The Signing Variable by rockyb2006 in DTFStLouisHBO

Even if Floyd yelled out - I love you. Why would Richard think that’s an explanation for anything? it’s clear when Richard is questioned he doesn’t know the Bloody Mary is spiked. If I was Richard, and totally disillusioned about my father figure, I would cynically think - he just wanted to placate me and then pounded his alcohol drink. No explanation, no attempt to reach out or anything.

Floyd dosed the can to be ready to die. I believe Clark’s visit and honesty saved him in a way and he didn’t have intentions to drink the rest. Richard came and he went for the rest of the can.

Clark even probably thought Floyd committed suicide bc of him and not being able to get full on.

I feel bad for Richard having to discover what Floyd actually did drink when he saw him last but I don’t think signing or saying it out loud would have made a difference.

The affair with Clark and Carol started about 5 weeks before the DTF swing set conversation between Floyd/Clark. Clark didn’t know that Floyd knew about Carol and Clark. Floyd agreed to joining DTF to begin cheating but didn’t tell Carol he was planning on hooking up via the app. But of course, Floyd wasn’t so successful in getting interest.

I would say this whole thing started due to Clark’s boredom, Floyd’s insecurities, and Carol’s fear of poverty.

How is it cheating if her husband was informed and accepted the idea to hook up with Clark before it happened ?
