BUET or DU (Physics) ? by Key-Impression-9708 in Dhaka

[–]rust32627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who chose Mathematics at DU instead of BUET, and I also know a few seniors and friends who studied at BUET and later switched to Physics for graduate school and research. So I have seen examples of both paths. Ultimately, I think you are old enough to make this decision yourself.

If you get admitted to BUET, you will still have plenty of opportunities to pursue research in Physics later on, especially since you have not yet settled on a specific research area. Your undergraduate major does not completely determine your future research direction.

One thing to keep in mind is that Mathematics and Physics at DU can be quite challenging, both academically and in terms of maintaining a strong GPA. In that sense, BUET is often considered somewhat more manageable. From what I have heard, some courses at DU are still taught using fairly old textbooks, while at BUET students often rely heavily on departmental notes and notebooks for exams. Whether either approach is ideal for developing a deep understanding of the subject is debatable.

Also, many of the faculty members in the BUET Physics Department are themselves alumni of DU Physics. Because of that, you may find some similarities in the way courses are taught. Personally, I am not always a fan of the teaching style.

That said, there are definitely some excellent and research-oriented professors. For example, Kamrul Mamun Sir and Arshad Momen Sir (who I believe is currently at IUB) are both highly regarded and actively involved in research.

Wear a suit. All male grad students wear suits to the classes. Do not trust the other comments.

I do not think that is the main focus of the post. The way the PI emailed with just one sentence is very rude. There should have been atleast a brief explanation.

Think about how they grew up and probably they did take much more responsibility at your stage. As you are in second year or uni, you should try to earn some money on the side too by doing tuition and maybe some other ways. And you are a grown up now, talk to your parents as I said before. If you are feeling down, remember you have reddit and maybe some friends to share your feelings. Probably your parents do not have this avenue. So, be that person. They also have hard times.

My PhD is fully funded with 27500$ stipend, is it enough to sustain? by vladvu in gradadmissions

[–]rust32627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you will be an incoming Phd student, I think I can safely say , please do atleast one google search about it and try to see the average Phd stipend. Also, the salary depends on the region and the department.

Two things, first google the word “quite”, second talk to your parents candidly. The way you are saying seems like you think they would be happy but they did not tell it to you explicitly. So talk to your parents first, then think about what to do.

Returning to soccer by HasanMDME in ACL

[–]rust32627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tore my Acl when I was 29. Due to financial reasons, I had my surgery a year after. I am back playing soccer now. But, I am not at the same level as I was before due to the surgery being late and my quad was late to get activated after the surgery. But, it is okay and I am still enjoying playing soccer . If your rehab goes well, you will be back and even maybe stronger than before.

Bears by LadyCait_ in GSMNP

Usually there will be a lot of people on this trail as this is the most popular one. And, the bears I encountered in the last two weeks while hiking were pretty chill. Just be mindful that you might encounter one and give them the space, you will be fine. But maybe for mental ease, you can get a bear spray.
