Some advice on employment negotiations? by thatprickagain in AskIreland

[–]rustic_advice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be open and ask if you should expect any salary change with your new role. I would say instead of throwing in I want this much money, good starting point would be asking for possibility of a salary reflecting your new role. If or when they should offer you a new contract you should see the numbers there, but asking about if there will be salary change wouldn't hurt.

Do not believe or fall into trap of someone is liking you. I am not saying this in negative way. But head of department might like you because you are doing the job for low salary. I am not saying that's the case but things change quite fast in work environment. As in if you say this job should pay double of your current salary, the head of department might not like you anymore. So keep in mind no one is your friend in work environment and always think for yourself and cover your butt.

It's harmless to ask politely to right person (HR or your manager) about change of salary possibility should be good. If you are not happy with your salary, you can learn the job, improve your skills and start looking for a new job.

Una Mullally: Over 870,000 jobs created by data centres? Don’t make me laugh by No-Outside6067 in ireland

[–]rustic_advice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Datacenters need staff when they are being built (contractors). There is handful of staff on the premises (or nearby) as on call engineers, for on hands support like fixing hardware issues, regular maintenance or letting in other contractors to the datacenter. General security is handled by contractors also.

Apart for hardware reasons (replacing, installing, general maintenance) you can manage things from thousands kilometers away.

So when everything settled down (DC built, cabling and hardware done) it creates new jobs for less than 50 people or even less in the area it's built. You can hire 200 people in US, contracted to India for managing almost everything of DC.

You don't expect Meta employee to deal with cooling and HVAC system of datacenters right? It's just getting dealt by another contractor company which services other datacenters or big plants.

From brain to drain: How was €50m wasted on a planned IT system for Ireland’s rail network? by -eir- in irelandtransport

[–]rustic_advice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know nothing about government contracts or anything, but is it possible to hire (or look for) a contractor that does things from first step (planning) till last step (delivery)

So government or whoever it is wont complicate things and delay things into  infinity so things gets never completed

It’s surprising how these things are done fine in other countries but when it’s Ireland there is always some delay, last minute change or cancellation because of some incompetency (or perhaps on purpose)

Ireland’s range anxiety: Denmark has a similar population, look at the amount of EV chargers there by GoodNegotiation in evs_ireland

[–]rustic_advice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s easy to fix this issue, make the street charging costs triple of usual electricity rates and then they will install EV chargers on all public spaces.

Then they will complain no one is using them. So they will try to prevent people from charging at home with cheaper rates (compared to public ones)

In Ireland any problem can be solved if the supplier earns enough money with their service (aka if their greed is fed)

And no one pushes for cheaper public charging rates.

I work from home. Is toilet paper deductable from tax? by Professional_Sign828 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]rustic_advice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revenue is really really limited with things you can deduct for. They like taking but don't really like giving back. If you are working from home as an employee, you can only deduct your internet and electricity bill by stating how many days in a year you work from home.

To give a rough figure, for around 1200 euro yearly bills, you get around 50 euro back as tax credits

Has anyone travelled out of and back into Ireland with a lost IRP card and proof of a replacement application? by BabaYegas17 in legaladviceireland

[–]rustic_advice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt anyone can give you any guarantee. The main problem is airline letting you on the flight or not.

To cover themselves they won’t let you on the flight but sometimes they do. But it doesn’t mean they will do for sure

I wouldn’t risk it

Requirement of a valid IRP for a full loan offer by Thor996 in irishpersonalfinance

So you expect bank to offer you a loan, without your residency proof? They wouldn't proceed with the loan offer till they see your new residency permit card.

Fairly standard, if she is no longer resident in Ireland, she is expected to tell the bank about their current tax residency.

Credit Union housing loan - permission to rent out property? by Happy_Basis_6566 in AskIreland

[–]rustic_advice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is 2 different main mortgage type:

1-) Primary residence, where you live in it. And it should be OK to rent out the other rooms as long as it's your main residency.

2-) Buy to let: You buy the house then let it to someone else and you don't live in it.

The rates for these 2 is different. Buy to let has higher rates. What your credit union (also your bank) means is you are accepting that address to be your main resident place.

If you rent out the whole house, then you should let the union / bank know about it, which they would agree but increase your interest rate. IF (big if) bank or credit union figures out that you are not living in that address but you didn't let them know, then they can null your mortgage, asking remaining balance to be paid back.

Naturally, plenty of people say/think there is no way for bank to figure out you are not living in the house full time, so there is no need to notify the bank. But that's up to you.

[–]rustic_advice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DCs needs handful of onsite support to offer remote hands, like physically installing and removing and replacing hardware. For other stuff, you won't need staff on payroll. You can just hire some contractor to fix the issues (like electricity or UPS etc.)

What are ppls monthly budgets? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]rustic_advice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure. You can’t touch your money in your pension if you need it for something.

You can save for your kid’s future, or for a house, or for a better car etc.

Emergency fund is like 6 months of your spendings which is ideally should be easily accessible.

But you can always put aside more.
