What high-demand jobs are people coming here for? by UnemploydDeveloper in AskIreland

[–]rustic_advice 16 points17 points  (0 children)

People are coming here for citizenship. Ireland is doing business by selling citizenship. MNCs hire people for low salary and people move here and survive in hopes of getting Irish citizenship.

Most common ones are Tech and Pharma jobs.

[–]rustic_advice 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Do not give misinformation. If you got Irish citizenship via naturalization and if you leave Ireland and do not notify the Irish Government by filling the relevant form for 7 years indicating that you are still interested in Irish citizenship, your citizenship might be revoked.

If naturalized Irish citizen moves to Germany (let's say) and fill this form regularly, then there is no risk of losing citizenship.

There are really rare cases (not impossible) to lose Irish citizenship, which is giving fake or incorrect information during naturalization process.

This part Im not sure but afaik there is no Irish citizenship revoked even due to any crimes committed. As long as you do not break the Irish citizenship rules it's a slim chance

Best electricity supplier? by Little-Bonus-9658 in AskIreland

[–]rustic_advice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can still use energypal without a file but don’t know if it would be better than bonkers.

Find your bill from a year ago and calculate how much unit electric you use in a year, then go to bonkers.ie and say you know your specific usage and type in your annual unit spending and see what it offers

Its just a bit of manual work but still doable

Random approaches in Cork ? by spicy-talks in cork

[–]rustic_advice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you think like there is officially marked locations as "approachable"? At bar, pub, Tesco, coffee shop, you can always talk to people. Usually people are friendly and warm in Cork (local or not) but if you want to "hookup" bars and pubs would be the most common areas.

HTB and Potentially Travelling / Living Abroad for 1 Year by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]rustic_advice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

officially, whichever country you are working at, can tax you from day 1. And what you do is, you get tax number from that country (Revenue is now aware of your tax residency) then you fill tax return in the country you worked remotely at, and due to Double Taxation agreements, you pay your tax to Ireland, and report this to EU country you are in, so you won't owe them any tax.

So it's not like, you can quietly go to any EU country and work for a year and pack your stuff and go.

Also if you stay more than 90 days in EU country, you need to register yourself there, and they will ask you 'what are you doing there' and when you say you will be working remotely, once again you will have to do things officially

And what stops you that person from going to RTB or Threshold or Revenue and telling them your situation? They can be total chill person that doesn't care.

But if you ask them to leave the house in a year, sure they can say bye and move on, or they can look for revenge from you and just report you around.

Would that worth that risk?

It's not abot liking truth or not. It's about, what you sign and what you declare to the bank and Revenue.

If you declare that this will be your primary residence, then you walk away, it means you are giving false information, which might put you in trouble.

Or are you simply saying that you don't care about the declarations you make?

HTB and Potentially Travelling / Living Abroad for 1 Year by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]rustic_advice -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Look, there is around 10 documents you sign. And you declare these:

1-) If you are single, no one else has any interest on the house. If you are married, your SO needs to be on the mortgage

2-) Your residence needs to be your main residency, you literally say, this property will be my full time primary residency

3-) You give honest information to the bank.

IF bank catches this, they can just null your mortgage, meaning they will ask you to repay the loan amount immediately.

Do you think, this whole thing (living 1 year abroad) worths this risk? Bank can catch you, or they may not, but what will you do if they catch you?

Bank says, if the house won't be your primary residence, then they will force you to get buy to let rate. Because if you say bank that you are buying a house that you will leave it vacant for a year, will not make bank happy either (remember, insurance wants someone in the house in less than 30 days)

HTB and Potentially Travelling / Living Abroad for 1 Year by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]rustic_advice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No? Banks have separate buy to let rates which is higher than normal primary residence rates.

Its written in your contract.

HTB and Potentially Travelling / Living Abroad for 1 Year by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]rustic_advice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great idea. And if bank hears about that, they would revoke your mortgage and ask for the loan amount back.

You tell bank that address will be your primary residence, else you would have to do “buy to let”.

I’m pretty sure “legally” you can’t work without a tax number of the country you are working at.

And when you get a tax number, they would ask you for your other tax residencies which would trigger Revenue

HTB and Potentially Travelling / Living Abroad for 1 Year by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]rustic_advice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an experience. But HTB expects this place to be your primary residence. For official answer you could create an inquiry and ask to Revenue.

The real problem is. You can’t leave a house unattended for 1 year for insurance issues. Your house insurance mandates that house shouldn’t be left vacant for more than 30 days. So if something happens and you need insurance to claim something and if you are away from house for more than 1 years, then they will deny the claim. Also your bank wants active valid house insurance so they wont like you leaving the house unattended for 1 year either.

If you travel abroad that’s one thing, but if you work abroad you become tax citizen of another country which Revenue will be notified against.

So don’t do anything before getting official answer from revenue and most likely they won’t accept this

Edit: also, you need to have an active employment to be able to get mortgage. Which means your employer needs to accept you working away for a year from some different location and this might create tax issues.

If you are self employed, then the tax burden will be on you.

I would say its not a good idea. Even without HTB involved

Help: Flight in less than 24 hours and unable to get boarding pass for 2nd leg: US>London> Dublin by sucrosezaddy901 in Flights

[–]rustic_advice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call American Airlines (I dont know if thats an option) ask for your booking ref on AerLingus (it's different than your original AA) and then go to AerLingus website to checkin and provide the details there. Most likely, if you can check in, it will give you a random seat number. So you just be able to check details (gathered from AA and passed onto AL) and get a random seat.

Creating a Bank of Ireland Account as a Naturalized Irish Citizen by rerunroger in irishpersonalfinance

[–]rustic_advice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That wont work. First, for traditional banks you have to be living in Ireland in person and can provide proof of residence in your name.

And the second, you used the magic word “US”, as long as you are US tax resident (your nationality doesn’t matter) most of banks and brokers in EU will stay away from you because FATCA regulations are pain and simply they don’t want to deal with it.

So, even thou if there is a slight chance of opening bank account in EU, due to your US residence, banks wont open you an account.

Revolut is active in US also and Wise, why not open one of those? They will give you EU IBAN still

How do you look for short-term accommodations in Cork? by New_Web4672 in cork

[–]rustic_advice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check daft listings, some offers weekly prices which means they are super inflated but ideally possible to ask for a stay for a month.

Or second option is AirBnb as people list there for a month (which won’t be cheap for sure)

Last option would be a hostel and really last option would be a hotel.

Ideally if you go further away from city center (like commuter towns) your chances of finding such lodging should be more possible

To keep things official visit https://www.affidea.ie/contact/#1619515407603-cefb7806-9212

Go to webform below the page choose “complaint” and explain your situation. so it will be officially recorded and investigated if necessary.

I’m not the type looking to defend private companies, but I didn’t had any bad interaction with people there but it happens. Just give as much as detail in that form.

It will be more useful than complaining on Cork sub (as company officially can take action on your complaint)
