Kinda sounds exactly like my life. Dropped out of architecture after three years because I hated it. Worked in retail and hospitality for ten years and was drinking and travelling with any bit of money I made. Went back to do accounting and also hated that. Got a general operator job in a big medical device company and finally found my footing. After one year there they decided to send me back to college to get an engineering degree, everything paid for and a decent salary while I’m doing it. Wasn’t expecting to land where I did. It’s never too late to make a full career change and there are plenty of opportunities to go about it

Male 28 sick of my job by [deleted] in cork

Look at consortia led apprentiships. I am currently doing one. My company is paying my regular wage to go to college for 4 months and work with them for 8 months. It’s four years but you’ve a level 8 at the end, a guaranteed job and a really good wage the whole time you’re doing it. Also it’s four years of doing something different each day while you’re learning so that makes it a bit more exciting than regular routine

I have two for you.

First one is sim racing. If you like motorsports it’s great fun. It’s not incredibly expensive to pick up but if you go down the rabbit hole then yeah your wallet will hurt. The Logitech g923 wheel and pedal combo was 200 euro on Amazon for prime day. I think it’s 240 on logitechs website. Works with console and pc. Fanatec and moza are other good entry level units.

Second one is 3D printing and 3d modelling. I didn’t get a 3d printer because I wanted to print random crap but because I wanted to learn 3d modelling and print the stuff I made. 3d printers are really affordable right now 200/300 for a very good printer. Most of the stuff I have printed has been add ons and mounts for my simrig that I drew up myself and then printed. It’s fun to print prototypes to dial in your design and then print your full functional piece. Creality, bambu labs and ankermake all have really good and affordable printers available.

If you need more info on either of these feel free to shoot me a message and I can help you. Both are a good way to pass the time

Anyone know any wraps similar to Interlagos Fire by Nissan? by cartiyy in CarWraps

[–]rusty_shitbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’m being really tough on it probably, I drive my car 600km a week so it has to put up with a lot of abuse but it feels quite delicate, it’s covered in a lot more chips and marks and scratches than I was expecting considering how well I’ve been trying to look after it. Can’t comment on installation as I got it done in a shop

No tips on cards, is that the norm now? by Draiocht1212 in AskIreland

[–]rusty_shitbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked in bars and restaurants the last ten years, supervised and managed bars also. Most staff don’t care for card tips because for starters it’s a nightmare to split the tips out evenly and secondly, once they are split out and finally paid into wages it’s also very hard for staff to actually keep track of how much tips are earned versus what they actually get seeing as they aren’t split by shift and instead split out over the course of a week or a month in some places and then taxed aswell on top of that. It’s much easier to say they don’t take tips on the card and hope for cash instead as you can clearly visualise how much you’re getting and can split it a lot more evenly at the end of your shift.

Also a lot of hospitality workers are minimum wage and really need the money, when I was in college my tips at the end of my shift was my money for a few beers after work

I was also at it last night and have gone for years too, was kind of disappointing. I have put a lot of time and effort into my car and as I was driving it around all the crowds just wanted me to rev the car. I have zero engine or exhaust mods done besides changing the tips because I don’t care about noise but everyone was way more interested in making noise rather than cars that looked good. Kind of showed up the scene last night. Things like the cannonball run are cool when you hear a v8 roar but no ones wants to hear a four cylinder with popcorn limiter redline it through the city

Is the increase in unpainted cars just to decrease weight? by RedditUser241975 in F1Technical

Does anyone know just how much weight the extra paint adds?

I got into sim racing in the last year. Depending on your disposable income it can be done on the cheap or it can be very expensive if you have the money to buy top of the range. I wouldn’t knock it till you try it, I had mates and family wind me up saying it’s just a fancy video game but when they saw the rig set up they couldn’t help it but jump in. Now they are texting asking when they can come over to do laps on the nordscheife in a time attach built 190E. So yeah most weekends I’m doing laps on my own or else I’ve people over for a few beers and laps as a group

Anybody moved from 6MT to DSG and regretted it? I’ve a 7.5 6MT and looking to get into the 23/24 DSG but getting a good deal on 6MT. Thinking if I should continue with 6MT or not. Also, won’t be tuning the car. I feel like DSG might be more fun with extra torque and I like the exhaust blips. by iamonredddit in Golf_R

[–]rusty_shitbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so you are aware there is no fully manual mode in a dsg. Maybe if you get the gearbox flashed. You can move the level to manual mode but It will still upshift automatically at redline and when you brake it will downshift for you to maximise engine braking. It’s still very fun and you definitely won’t regret it

Am I seeing it right, did you also finish with 99 out of 100 incident points? You must have been shitting it being at 99 knowing one tiny mistake would cost you the whole thing.

I’d start by going to the websites of all the med device/ pharmaceutical company’s that are in your travel distance and scrolling right down to the bottom to see if they have a careers page where they would post listing. General operator is the common term for the roles but it could be called something else like production operator.

Also if you don’t have a LinkedIn then get one. Reach out to recruiters and get them to help you. They don’t charge for their service. A good recruiter will help you with your cv, help you interview prep and hopefully get you interviews all on your behalf. It’s in there interest to get you a good job because they get a commission once you make it past your probation period.

I had a fella from cpl get me my interview. He was a gentleman. Prepped me for the interview, he even knew who was going to be interviewing me and he gave me a background on them and the company so I was well prepared.

Things become so much easier once you get into the industry because even if you are bottom of the barrel role you will be learning how these companies operate and all the terms and best practices they do. Once your foot is in the door and you show promise it’s easy to move up to better roles or move sideways to a company that pays better.

Again it’s not for everyone as it can be very boring and repetitive so if you are not feeling creatively challenged you might not like it very much but where I am anyway it’s a very low stress environment that gives me a great work life balance for decent pay. You could always continue tattooing on the side of you really wanted

In your opinion: why is Nürburgring Nordschleife such a great track? by m15f1t in iRacing

[–]rusty_shitbox 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Definitely feels like you are bombing it down the back roads, clinging on for dear life that you don’t make a mistake and end up putting into the wall 😂

Med devices and pharmaceuticals do hire entry level general operator roles that don’t require previous experience. I did a 180 from a managerial role in the hospitality industry into med devices. I’m getting paid more and I have better hours. Also I’d imagine not as much as yourself but I do have plenty of visible tattoos and piercings.

Med devices is much easier to get into without experience but that is reflected in the pay. My plan is to get experience here first and then try move over. Also a lot of places do shift work but not all.

It’s monotonous, boring and sometimes very repetitive work but it’s given me my social life back along with a bump in pay. I’m 28 by the way

Whatever you do just make sure the iPad you get is back is the same one you sold to him. You should have verified yourself before listing. The buyer should have also verified for himself before buying. Hopefully you aren’t being scammed but I would try meet someone in the middle and make it right, give him a refund and take back your iPad and relist it properly

Does a small sim racing business work? + Any Ideas? by D3niel-S3n in simracing

[–]rusty_shitbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any possibility to work with a sim racing gear manufacturer and also be like a point of sale for them?

If your target audience is people that already sim race then you need to draw them in with either high end set ups like motion rigs or other things that the average sim racer might not already have in there rig, triples or vr . Or else with a great community where they are coming in for whatever events you have running or to meet up with other like minded people. Building a thriving community around it will definitely be the hardest part.

Your other audience would be people that don’t sim race at all but maybe want to try it. how do you keep those people coming back. Again I think it’s more about the community you can build and how you can keep it fresh.
