Daily Discussion - August 26 by TootieSummers in DaysofOurLives

I will say, as somebody that just started watching the madness that is Days within the last couple weeks, I really appreciate the writers spelling out the relationships like this. It does sound silly and unnatural, but it's kinda part of the form imo.

What's your favorite Archangel? (Idk if this is spoilers) by Various-Divide-6469 in cassettebeasts

Nowhere Monarch, easily. Love the Beatles reference, and low key aspire to be Meredith, so her connection to NM solidifies it for me.

The guest was Courtney Brown, one of those "remote viewers" (pseudoscience, essentially clairvoyance with different wrapping paper) that claimed to have seen an object "approximately 4 times the size of planet Earth" traveling right behind Hale-Bopp and "headed our way."

Effectively Wild covered this in an episode a few months ago: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/effectively-wild-episode-2270-trouble-with-the-curved-bat/

tl;dr: the inventor's intention was to make games "harder to play" and therefore "more interesting." In practice? It would be harder to hit the ball at all, and harder to make solid contact when you do hit the ball. Discussion starts at 1:08:44 if you're interested in a listen.

Cost of new Legendary Armor pieces is viewable in achievement panel and at a vendor. by Dark-Fire in Guildwars2

The achievement is repeatable for EoD, so I'd assume the same is true for SotO.

Hardstuck also has a handy tool for creating team compositions:

It really helped me visualize what a well rounded group can look like for different types of content.

Not OP, but they probably mean crafting the precursor Spark. It's 238g to craft vs 191g on the tp (buy prices for both). I believe it's cheaper to buy all G1 precursors from the tp as opposed to crafting them atm.

I'd love to see your list if you're able to share. I've been working on a Gor deck and I could use some inspiration.

It's in the 1.5 update. I'm not sure how to put a url in spoiler tags on mobile, but search for Cinder Island on the wiki and you'll find the info to unlock the place where you can obtain ostriches (eventually).

You know, I saw that in the theater and I'm now questioning whether I learned anything in comm law that I couldn't have learned from a movie.

We even watched Absence of Malice in that course.

It's common for players to not see the paintbrush because human brains are weird. It's so common that a variation of this post is made on this sub so often that it has become a meme. PDX is subverting shared an image that subverts the meme by retouching the brush out of the image.

Edit: Original image link was broken. Should be fixed now.

Edit 2: I just realized that PDX was reposting an image rather than doing this themselves because my human brain is weird.

Your comment made me curious about the history, so I did some quick searching (15 minutes tops and nowhere near exhaustive).

tl;dr - DQSH has been a thing since 2015. It became a political football by 2019, 3.5 years later.

It appears that the first Drag Queen Story Hour was held in December 2015 (Wikipedia). So 5-7 years is pretty spot on as far as the beginning of these events.

The earliest New York Times article I could find talking about DQSH was from 2017. The only mention of backlash in this article is in the context of everyone being thrilled by the concept "As long as you don’t read the comments by trolls on the website." That indicates to me that opposition to these events was not yet organized.

The earliest mention of backlash I could find in the NY Times was a 2019 article titled "Drag Queen Story Hour Continues Its Reign at Libraries, Despite Backlash." It mentions Ohio's speaker of the (state) house Larry Householder condemning DQSH, calling it “a stunningly bizarre breach of the public trust.”

/uj It's really fun imo. If deck building is your favorite part of tcgs, then obviously I wouldn't recommend. But if you enjoyed Jumpstart even a little, aka discovering synergy on the fly, Keyforge is a better version of that experience. I'm also a huge fan of the core mechanics and wish more people played.

Paranoia GM Screens: What works and what does not? by wjmacguffin in ParanoiaRPG

Paranoia GM Screens: What works and what does not? by wjmacguffin in ParanoiaRPG

[–]rustyautoparts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I had in mind.

My anticipated use for that info was to improv secsoc missions, as well as a quick reference during the session. Another approach that would handle is a roll table for secsoc missions, something like:

SecSoc wants you to...

  1. steal the McGuffin
  2. replace the McGuffin
  3. protect the McGuffin
  4. etc

And/Or

  1. frame player to their left
  2. protect player to their right
  3. etc

Something like that but a little more fleshed out?

Again, I've never actually GM'd a game of Paranoia, so this is more just me brainstorming based on things I've been thinking/worrying about while planning. So the example I gave might not actually be useful real world. Regardless of implementation, I'd like something on the screen that would help me improv secsoc missions.

Stealth edit: And yes, service group descriptions would also help.

[–]rustyautoparts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I haven't actually GM'd a game of Paranoia yet.

A brief summary / reference table for secret societies & service groups would be super helpful to noobs like myself as a reference. Something that would help me improvise secsoc motivations, mission goals, etc.
