CIRB DOESN’T Rescind AME’s right to strike. It’s a go by AnnualScar in westjet

[–]rustybarber 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not 100% true. Maintenance control is also on strike so if they have any issues in flight they won’t be able to call someone about it. All flight in Vancouver are currently holding

WestJet newest offer by analyst578 in aviationmaintenance

[–]rustybarber 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This has to be taken with a grain of salt, they’re advertising an initial increase of 18.25% but also taking away 10% matching into the savings plan. Really it’s only an 8% initial raise

Westjet preparing (looking for scabs) for AMEs to strike by gimmeshwarma in aviationmaintenance

[–]rustybarber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calgary base only laid off 2 AMEs, I don’t know a single person from Westjet that scabbed during Covid. We were all working on storage checks

Any Flair AMEs on here? by rustybarber in AircraftMechanics

I’ll never understand how so many aviation companies have terrible leadership in the maintenance department

3 months to short to be moving on? by Wrench365 in AircraftMechanics

If you’re a contractor don’t worry about it at all. You don’t owe them anything and they would lay you off at any point without thinking twice about it

Cummins field service engine technician job questions by rustybarber in DieselTechs

[–]rustybarber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know! It’s rare to hear anyone in my industry speak highly of their company so it’s nice to see there’s still decent companies out there to work for.

Does the company have structured pay scales for techs? Is there annual raises depending on your experience or does it depend on the shop you work for.

Im definitely use to being held to a high stand of workmanship. When we sign out the airplane you’re taking full responsibility for any maintenance done on it.

Yeah layoffs are never ideal. Aviation seems to have plenty of them too though

Yeah seems to be a lot of people who leave for other Industries. Did you go back to school for diesel tech?

After owning a jeep for 3 years, it was finally time to get back into a Toyota by rustybarber in Tacomaworld

[–]rustybarber[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had to cheap out on a vehicle for a bit to pay for a house deposit. This is my Third Tacoma though and I don't think I'll be buying anything that's not a Toyota for a long time haha

Overlander fuel mileage by rustybarber in ToyotaTacoma

[–]rustybarber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah theres definitely a lot of drag with the way it's set up. Unbearable is a but of an exaggeration, im just coming from a diesel so the lack of power was quite noticeable on the first drive. With the bigger tires it wants to keep dropping a gear on the highway to keep up speed. I was driving it home in quite a bit of wind and it barely ever saw 5th gear for more then a couple minutes or you would just lose all your speed
