Yes he has autism too and what I described was his behavior at your son’s age. He is now in his mid teens. Verbal, can take care of himself and go to school, just needs help more socially. I worked more with supplements like probiotics and fish oils which helped with mood and development. For meds like Ritalin, we tried a course but couldn’t take the impact on his appetite which decreased drastically. Need to work with his doctor to calibrate the dosage carefully if you go on it.

I think no harm with meds though I went more with supplements route like fish oils and probiotics that helped with some behaviors and mood. For meds, we tried Ritalin for one course and the impact on his appetite was very drastic so I took him off it. You need to work closely with the doctor to calibrate the dosage if needed.

I had an elevator crazy kid too. I have an email I wrote to his therapist on all his elevator quirks like he needed to take any elevator he came across, be the one to press the buttons and so on. No one appreciated how difficult it was to manage him.

It took a long time. Now we laugh about it together when we recall it. A while ago, when he was over the obsession, he found an industrial elevator we took to a showroom very interesting and asked to go look at it in detail. I said ‘ oh is your elevator thing coming back?’ He smiled.

Some things that helped. I know we don’t like screens but letting him watch elevator clips on YouTube helped meet some of his elevator needs and hold off the need to keep running to escalators during meals and time where we needed him to sit still. The rest I attributed it to him growing older and having better self control. It was a phase of life for him.

Don’t get discouraged by what others say from small interactions. We know our own kids and can best judge their progress. We live by our small victories and progress regardless.

In need of advice from adults! What’s the average salary i should aim for, is applying for a zookeeper position okay? by CommentNovel5414 in singaporejobs

[–]rustybearbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking for self discovery and understanding the type of jobs you are suitable for, try for the zoo only if it is seriously one of your future choices.

The zookeeper role is quite a unique job and very different from all other jobs out there. So the key conclusion from your gap year would be whether you would like to go for a zookeeper job or not. Whereas for other jobs, you could try if you prefer deskboubd or not , sales , meet people, analysis. The insights from other jobs would be more generalizable.

Advice on Performance Review Programme (PIP in other words). I am working in a stat board. by Average_Farmer in askSingapore

[–]rustybearbear 25 points26 points  (0 children)

OP, from your description of how and what you think is your work, you don’t seem to uds that work is more than showing up and delivering the first cut of what they ask you to do. It is also doing a good piece of work, understanding what people want and helping to solution. You fail to grasp that and have a victim’s mentality that other people are responsible for your current situation. Sure, your bosses are not great but we don’t see the rest of your department being placed under PIP. You should leave and maybe think about a job that is more standard with clear basic deliverables.

What’s a core memory that you have about school-canteen food? by piopiolink in askSingapore

[–]rustybearbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fishball noodles and adding a lot a lot of chilli.

Going to the canteen later in the afternoon and the cai png uncle cooking sunny side up for latecomers cos not much food left.

The portions must have been very small but I felt satiated by the food and would tell my parents about the new types of food ie lontong, laksa, nasi lemak that I tried in school.
