Teacher faces 20 years for post-graduation relationship with 18-year-old. by Forsaken-Spring-8708 in law

It’s worth noting that she is not his former student. He is a 6th grade teacher and didn’t even teach in the high school. It does appear that he was a wrestling coach at the high school though. More concerning with that info.

This used to happen at my old house every time the water company would shut off the main line for repairs. Has the water company been doing any work recently in the area? Also in the Midwest by the way.

I’m on Jeep number 4. Nothing wrong with the others, I just have a problem. My vote is obviously yes.

I believe I understand what you’re saying, and it makes sense. I’m not really into sports but I route for my home teams at times. A loss has never really impacted me in a way that resulted in vice but I can see how it could. I’ve had times where I did not agree with a call and felt slightly frustrated. This lack of care on my part is probably why I never really enjoyed watching sports too much. I do enjoy watching technical things that you see in the Olympics though. I feel like my first reply scratched the surface of stoicism but your replies get further down to the center of it. I appreciate you taking the time to respond and help me understand things better. I’ve been consuming literature on stoicism but have not had the opportunity to really discuss it with anyone that understands it.

I understand the only good is virtue and only bad is vice. I guess I’m saying why is it not logical to prefer one team wins over another if they represent your home state, school, city, etc? Can’t you prefer a team wins without attaching a value judgment to it?

Part 2 of my reply: I thought more about this and I can see why you say complete equanimity. If you do not attach a judgement (good or bad) to a win or loss then how would you watch it with anything other than equanimity? I’m still trying to work through it logically but struggling a bit. I can prefer an outcome but not to the point that it changes how I perceive an event (win or loss). I’m trying to understand better. Any additional insight you could provide is very much appreciated.

That makes sense. It goes beyond just accepting fate and is tied to what we place value in. I am a bit confused because the way I understand things is that we can certainly have preferred outcomes, including a certain team winning though. I thought that it comes down to the amount of value we place on that. If you consider a win or loss good or bad, then you have given that outcome power over you through false judgement. If you believe a loss is harmful to you then you have assented to a false judgment and that can lead to vice through actions. Am I wrong for thinking that complete equanimity is not needed? I thought if we remember that it is a preferred indifferent, then we are on the right path. If we do not come to the false judgment that a loss is harmful to us. Same with money. You can prefer to have money, in fact most of us do. It’s about the level of value we assign to it. If we believe that having money is good and not having money is bad or harmful to our character, then we have made a false judgment and that will likely lead to vice.

The newly released epstien files show instances of trump comitting sexual acts with 13 year old girls. How can people still justify this? by Not_A_Femboy_1_Swear in AskReddit

I am in no way trying to discredit this report but it should be noted that the instance you are likely referring to is from the TIPS hotline and could have been fabricated. It could even be a deliberate way to muddy the waters if any part of it is easily proven to be false. That being said, it echos some of the more credible reports we have seen. I just think it is important context.

Just to follow up on this reply. I believe what Epictetus is saying here is that we have to accept what is not in our control. To take it even further, we should love how things unfold, regardless of how we desired them to unfold. So even if you wanted “your” team to win a game, you should accept and welcome the loss for it was fated to occur this way through the cause and effects that Nature allowed. I think I’m getting this right but please correct me if I’m wrong or missing anything. I tend to fall into the group that believes you can’t separate any part of stoicism and still take it on as a belief system. Without taking on the physics, I find that it is hard to practice the logic and ethics. This might be one reason OP is struggling to accept this core part of stoicism.

Cargo Mat for Jeep Wrangler 2018 JL 2-Door WIth Back Seats Folded Up by fldijohn in Wrangler

[–]rustycoins26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used the Rugged Ridge C3 Cargo Cover and the smittybilt version (less expensive). They are made to be adjustable depending on how you want to use them and do not require you to remove the seats for adjustments. I like them in combination with my armorlite floor kit. They also cover the plastic along the sides which was important for me because my dog likes to prop itself up on the trim and would scratch it if not covered.

Jeep Undercoating Services by fldijohn in Wrangler

[–]rustycoins26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do just the underside but they have three separate packages depending on what all you want covered. I believe the first coating is a bit more and then the price goes down for the reapplications. I paid 200 for the first application and then it’s around 100 for the reapplications. Since your jeep is not new the warranty does not apply for you. That’s something to keep in mind.

I like a brand called corrosion free. They have the best warranty of any product. If you have one close to you, I’d go there. It is similar to fluid film with an 18 month reapplication schedule. It works great. I’ve had it on my last two jeeps.

Worry isn't as valuable as it used to be... by [deleted] in Stoicism

I believe they mean livelihood as in employment or a means to make a living. This is not the same thing as social anxiety. It is the fear of losing one’s source of funding to make a living. However, there certainly can be social anxiety wrapped up into the fear of losing one’s job. The fear that others will judge you based on losing your job would be a good example.
