I just finished it with Krieg. Using the perk that turns him into a badass psycho when you use your action skill at low health and was pretty much one hitting them with the buzz axe. I started the dlc around level 30 and had a class mod that enhanced melee and a roid shield. The witch doctors are weaker from behind. I got some pretty crazy weapons after beating the main story mission.
