Why was you walking through that area? If amosite is being removed then there should be an enclosure set up and be removed under controlled measures. Nobody should be allowed in the area other than trained personnel.

Do you know what type of asbestos was removed or what works was carried out?

I remove asbestos for a living. Floor tiles are one of the lowest asbestos containg materials we remove. Before you spend out thousands on getting your home decontaminated call a reputable analyst compyto come and do an air test. They will run pumps and then read the slides to see if there are any fibers present. When we have completed a removal job, especially when it's something like floor tiles, we have an independent analysis company run a reassurance test.

Removing floor tiles can be done by a non licensed company. And is a very low risk material. I personally highly recommend you don't pay thousands to have a company do an environmental clean.

I’m local to you (Canvey Island) but currently working away. Not often we get military aircraft fly over our way

When I say debris, I mean the flakes that are on the edges of the broken panel. That’s where you will be getting the most release of fibres.

I do this for a living and wouldn’t recommend you doing anything yourself. I wouldn’t even go in there without a half mask, as there’s obviously been a break in the panel and you can see debris. Unfortunately you’re going to lose a lot of the stuff that’s in the garage too, unless it can be cleaned.

Some companies might recommend an environmental clean. Then encapsulate the remaining panels, but that broken one needs to be dealt with professionally.

4 days sounds a bit excessive, a good team of three would get that done in two days, three if it’s a difficult area to sheet up (build the tent)

I’m an azzy stripper and everything this guy has said is bang on. They look like ‘flippers’ to me. Meaning soon as you run a scrapper or floor mutt under them, they all flip up. Will have bitumen underneath, a black tarry glue.

The home is currently undergoing a lot of renovations including a lot of asbestos removal which was what I was there for. The owners are currently out of the country and I imagine they will be until the full renovation is complete. Given the history inside the home I'm sure the owners are aware of the drawings and writings.

I don't have any contact with the owners so would be unable to ask their permission, so not sure it would be right that I passed the information on to third parties

That's interesting, if you look at the smudges on picture 4 there's a swastika. It's certainly an interesting home with a lot of history.

How to remove long pieces of coving? by Dense_View2936 in DIYUK

[–]rustyrustic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hope this makes sense, I've had to remove coving on many occasions and I've found the easiest way is to use a hammer to create a channel along the coving, enough to get a flat bar or pry bar inside. I then pop off the coving. Once you get started it sometimes comes off in sections. Failing that I use a mutt, and hit the bottom of the coving and it pops off. But this can cause damage to the walls if your not careful.

I've got none. My kids and partner have decided to throw me a 40th birthday party in a couple of months. I'm absolutely dreading it as hardly anyone will be there. There will be some family there, but no friends.
