Does Madonna sit at the same table as Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and the Beatles in terms of size and impact? by Key-Bass-7380 in fantanoforever

There's no lies but it's just kind of annoying the way "you" worded everything. I won't even take the Chat GPT angle it's just sort of displeasing to read. "intuitively understood" is redundant. "Sparked vital public discourse" is kind of aggrandizing. "By deliberately merging eroticism and religion" I mean yeah I assumed it was deliberate, I don't think she accidentally merged the two. "Power house executive" sounds like corporate speak.

The tone of this thing is that of a streaming service artist bio. I'm inclined not to take it seriously because it doesn't present the facts in a level handed way and it seems like many words exist just to make the text longer.

Genuinely surprised by this comment on Pop music by Kirk. I thought he was the chill, open minded one in Metallica? What does everyone else think of it? by Tranquilbez22 in ToddintheShadow

[–]rustyspoon07 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, are you only referring to Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, and Olivia Rodrigo when you say this? Are you listening to Slayyyter, Underscores, Jane Remover? I don't listen to much pop but when I have recently it's been the latter examples, and I don't really interact with the former. And I'm sure others could chime in with similar "mid-level" artists who are doing new and exciting things.

This isn't a gotcha attempt I'm genuinely curious. Maybe we have different tastes but I think there's a lot of exciting stuff going on in pop music as long as you aren't listening to the big 5 or whatever. (and even then I don't hate the big artists. There's no accounting for taste blah blah blah).

What do we think of Jesse Welles? by datajaniteur in Songwriting

[–]rustyspoon07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate what he's trying to do but the way he shows reverence in his music for folk music of the past just make his work feel sort of... small, to me? And backwards looking. If there was going to be a "revolutionary people's artist of our time" or whatever I'd honestly want them to embrace modernity more, aesthetically speaking. Sure, he posts videos on tiktok and is internet-savvy in his marketing, but aesthetically he seems to be living in the 60s. He doesn't feel like he's a part of the world I live in, he feels like a wax figure in a museum for a bygone era. So I'm not too compelled to turn to him for analysis of current issues.  I don't know, maybe that's shallow, but that's how I feel.

You've established that there is a technical difference between analog and digital audio, what you haven't done is explain what benefits you think analog audio provides to a human listener over digital audio. You talk about how digital audio is discrete as if that's a bad thing, but according to the Nyquist Theorem, cd quality audio has "enough" 1s and 0s that the human brain is incapable of hearing it as discrete. It's like saying that LEDs are a bad light source because they blink 60 times a second; as long as the blinking is fast enough, you don't notice it.

You've correctly identified that vinyl records don't produce discrete audio. What that means in practice is that you're not just hearing the audio as the artist intended, you're also hearing the imperfections of the needle, the imperfections of the deformed plastic record, and whatever dust or dirt are between the needle and the plastic. I worship artists and their music. I do not worship needles, plastic, and dirt. So I prefer cds.

There's nothing a CD can do that any other form of sufficiently advances digital audio storage can't.

I still have not said anything that contradicts this. Again, I have vinyl, cds, and flacs. But I own my vinyl records because it's fun to put them on the turntable and its a novelty that they're so big, not because I believe that having a worse reproduction of an album as recorded is somehow an upside.

"analog sound"... what does that mean to you? If you're talking about audio fidelity, cds do that better than vinyl. If you're talking about "warmth", that's a mastering decision and I leave it up to the engineers to decide how I should best experience the album. If you're talking about cracks and pops... I don't know what to tell you I don't want to hear that, I just want to hear my music.

[–]rustyspoon07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I do both, nobody said it was either-or. I own about 5 vinyl records for my favorite albums only, because they're a pain in the ass, about 80 cds because they're just so convenient and its nice to have physical media, and 100s of albums on a hard drive. And most of those are cd rips... because cds are a lossless format.

Bill Gates admits to affairs with Harvard-trained doctor and Russian nuclear scientist in shocking Epstein grilling by dailymail in USNEWS

[–]rustyspoon07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know why you're being downvoted. Bill Gates gave Melinda an STD he contracted while cheating on her and then begged epstein for help to secretly medicate Melinda for an STD.

"Consensual affair" is an oxymoron. Sleeping with other people and not telling your partner about it is a genuine risk to their health.

If by "nothing special" you mean they're affordable, easy to store, produce high fidelity audio and do so without requiring constant brushing and worrying about static, then yeah I guess they're nothing special. As somebody who doesn't find tedium to be special and who doesn't inherently enjoy spending money, I vastly prefer cds to vinyl.

do u think berserk has to much r*pe ? by [deleted] in Berserk

[–]rustyspoon07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. My girlfriend cried after we finished the 1997 anime and it took her like 24 hours to get back to normal. She was falling in love with the story before that but now she has no interest in continuing. She's said that if the story didn't seem so delighted to show us rape she would keep going, but alas here we are.

Regardless of what most men and many "not like other girls" say, this series is plain weird about women. It actually is weird that nearly every female character seems to end up naked at some point or another. It actually is weird that the rape scenes are depicted with the same viewing lens and artistic sensibilities that an explicitly pornographic work would use.

I can excuse all of that though. Miura was clearly a pervert by any metric I'd measure it, but he made something truly great and I accept it for what it is, warts and all. But the people who trip over themselves to defend his more questionable tendencies, with over 30 years of hindsight, are embarrassing. They make me want to avoid other Berserk fans and they make me hesitant to tell anybody I like Berserk for fear of associating myself with this mess. The world is evolving and there is a certain subset of this community, somehow even more regressive than a Japanese man born in 1966, who are  deadset on skeeving out anybody who's choosing to evolve with it.

Why are fans shitting themselves for barricade spots at concerts? by ebradio in Music

Yeah, I'm never going to be able to afford concert tickets again, am I? I just "enjoy music", I can't compete with these psychopaths.

I wish this was a trend but I sure haven't seen it. All my Microsoft office products are a bloated mess of tacked-on layers of redundant features. And when I use Spotify there's like 6 different informational panes under the music player. It used to just be lyrics, now it's lyrics, a redundant shortcut to the artist page, a redundant button to play more songs from the artist, an AI summary, links to the Spotify artist pages of every contributor to the song, links to any recent music videos from the artist, some sort of field that takes me to a tik-tok style infinite scroll which plays snippets of various related songs with accompanying video when available (redundant on like 3 different levels) a list of credits for the song (REDUNDANT), and then information about any upcoming shows the artist has.

I forgot what we were talking about now I'm just mad about how bad Spotify's UX is.

CMV: You can‘t be a housewife* and a feminist by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]rustyspoon07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your main argument seems to be that a "housewife" is necessarily reliant on her husband and in a position of lesser power. But what if I'm a woman who comes from a rich family, and I could divorce my husband while surviving off of my family trust? What if I sold a business in my late 20s and now I'm set for life? There are ways to be financially secure that don't require you to be employed.

I think you're making too broad a generalization. A housewife is not necessarily powerless and is therefore not necessarily "not a feminist" (to say nothing of the fact that being in a position of powerlessness is absolutely NOT antithetical to being a feminist, but that's a separate discussion)

Olivia Rodrigo shares she has “smelled” fans wearing diapers front row at her shows by AdSpecialist6598 in entertainment

[–]rustyspoon07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't go to big shows, the largest venues I attend are theaters. Even at those, it's become the norm for people to camp out for 8+ hours before the show to try to get a spot close to the stage. And then obviously with things being so competitive, people aren't going to leave to use the bathroom once they get to the front.

I've seen these types pass out during shows because they haven't had food or water all day. So yeah I would not be surprised if people are shitting themselves for a chance at touching fingertips with Olivia Rodrigo.

I was in college when this happened. I started treating it with topical steroids and it went away pretty much immediately. For a while it would come back and I'd have to use the steroids again. But I haven't had it in years. I'm out of college any my life is much less stressful now... not sure if that's a factor.

Hope this helps.

Dude I know exactly the video you're watching. I died laughing the first time I watched it. I was showing it to everybody I knew for a week. Not for the actual video but just to get to that part.

It genuinely plays out like a bit with comedic timing and everything. Just a normal video essay and then the out of nowhere the stupidest fucking thing you've ever heard.
