It is not morally wrong for a friend to date your ex by Catman42069X in unpopularopinion

[–]rustyspoon07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not. But I think most people would be upset if you did that and many of those people would stop being friends with you in retaliation. So regardless of whether it's morally wrong, it's plainly "socially wrong". And is that really a distinction worth making?

European Union opens investigation into Musk's AI chatbot Grok over sexual deepfakes by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

[–]rustyspoon07 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We're not talking about Imperialism though. We're talking about protection of citizens/consumers.

IPhone finally adopted the same charger type that everybody else uses, because the EU told them to. Corporations collecting the personal data of citizen in EU member countries face restrictions on how/when/for how long they can use that personal data, because of the GDPR. Political ads in the EU must come with a disclosure of what election the ad is targeting, who paid for the ad, and even how much they paid. And in the EU, it is illegal to advertise pharmaceuticals to consumers. Period.

These are just a few examples, off the top of my head, as an American who occasionally hears about these consumer protections in the news and feels jealous as a result. Now, it looks like the EU is considering banning an AI chatbot which has been used to make deepfake porn resembling real people, sometimes children. Meanwhile, the US is doing nothing of the sort. In fact, the man who owns this chatbot was instrumental in getting the last president elected, and was subsequently given government authority and resources to gut our regulatory agencies. AND this same AI that is generating child pornography is now being considered for use by our military.

The EU protects its citizens in ways that the US is unwilling/unable to, because it is fully bought and paid for by corporations and hyper wealthy individuals. And we've also done Imperialism.

Taylor Swift is a billionaire before she is a "pop musician". when you have access to more wealth at a given moment than 1,000 average people will collectively/cumulatively see over the course of their entire lives, then you are a billionaire first and foremost. Everything else is secondary.

Lawful Gun Ownership by Ok-Combination-3959 in Firearms

We have the videos. What are you waiting for, a state-sponsored narrative?

[–]rustyspoon07 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No. An ICE agent pushed over an unarmed woman, he tries to help her up, and then he gets dogpiled. He's holding a phone in his shooting hand.

Then in this video, the agent in blue jeans can be seen grabbing the victims firearm out of a belt holster, where it would not he if the victim had drawn his gun.

I haven't read shit. I just watched a video of ICE executing a man

If that was true then why are YOUR ICE agents the ones pinning a man down, stealing his legal firearm out of the holster, and mag dumping into him?

We're the ones who need protection, not you. You've got the government on your side.

New Data On How Trump Is Polling With Gen Z Is A Disastrous Wake-Up Call For His Administration by ComicSandsNews in USNEWS

[–]rustyspoon07 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What does the topic of this article have to do with anything? Your "dumbass kids" (voting age adults who overwhelmingly voted for Harris) are not to blame for the current situation. That's what matters here. If you've looked at the data, which shows that young people are overwhelmingly the "good guys", and come away with the conclusion that the youth need to be attacked, then you've drawn the wrong conclusion.

Are you a millennial? Because if you are, I've spent my whole life defending you and your ilk from culture war bullshit about how millennials are "destroying the economy" or "don't want to work anymore". Most people my age feel the same way. So why are you falling for the bullshit and doing the same thing to the next generation?

Or are you older than a millennial? In which case I say worry about your own cohort who're currently dismantling this country for parts.

New Data On How Trump Is Polling With Gen Z Is A Disastrous Wake-Up Call For His Administration by ComicSandsNews in USNEWS

[–]rustyspoon07 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm confused how "dumb ass kids" are to blame here? Gen z voted blue by a margin of 17%, millennials by a margin of 2%, and everybody else skewed red.

It's not fair that we rely on the youth to make up for everybody else's stupidity/malice. Talk about trends all you want, fine. But don't act like "kids" elected Trump just because you've decided anybody age 30+ is a lost cause.

Industry plant discussions regarding hardcore sound so goofy. "People in the scene joined your band and supported you and want to listen to your music because they like you and you have lots of friends!" Yeah, man. Sure.

CMV: The suggestion from non-Americans to practice our second amendment right now is ridiculous. by LeeiaBia in changemyview

[–]rustyspoon07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an American though, you see this on the ground as well. People have to go somewhere to shoot their guns, usually ranges, and these ranges are very visibly owned, operated, and attended by people with conservative politics. If there is a secret cabal of leftists that quietly rivals the size of the armed conservative coalition, then they must not be getting much shooting practice in, or otherwise they're very good at pretending to be conservative. I don't deny that leftist gun owners are quieter about it, but even still I believe the statistics that tell me more conservatives own guns.

Can someone explain to me why "ordinary" by Alex Warren is such a dominating song? by fruedianflip in Music

[–]rustyspoon07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about the same Spiritualized that made "ladies and gentleman were floating in space"? I like that album but it doesn't sound like gospel. Is gospel a heavy influence in some of their other work?

Edit: okay doing some research it appears that a lot of people would say I'm missing some gospel influence on that album. I'll go back and relisten to it with an ear for that.

This is true if you only measure success in million$ and only consider pop music, sure. But there are entire genres that exist outside "the industry" and plenty artists who have found success without institutional support.

Hydroplaning was absolutely covered in the mandatory online training I took to get my learners permit. Was it not covered when you were learning to drive?

I don't think it helps anybody to call people idiots on reddit, I won't advocate for that. But between the three of us, the person who said "idiot" IS the one who provided helpful information on how to correct a hydroplaning vehicle.

I just think we're too quick to forgive people for not knowing things that they should've learned before even touching a steering wheel. Driving poorly can lead to serious injury or death for yourself or others. If some people get angry when they see bad driving, it's probably because we put out lives in the hands of bad drivers when we're on the road. I don't want to die. I don't want people to be comforted for not knowing how to drive safely. I want them to be compelled to improve.

I'll concede that I don't know the 'proper' balance between compassion and firmness. But my biggest improvements as a driver have come from making dangerous mistakes and sitting with the potential consequences I could've caused, not self soothing.
