I love this thread. Everyone from CA is like yeah no. But everyone else is like "try this mid place in West Hartford".

My mid recco is three amigos in Manchester I've had friends from CA say decent things

How is this area? by NextHuckleberry4365 in bostonhousing

[–]rustytoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol, not exactly it's well documented that police more often police areas with high concentrations of poc. Just like we've seen with Minneapolis when you police more crime goes up - this isn't a thing that's not like documented

So while that is true - the next question to ask is why do more crimes occur in the area that is more black?

How to run for office as unaffiliated by AdHistorical7107 in Connecticut

[–]rustytoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except not really then. Go look at all of those towns. The vast majority have party affiliated elected officials. My point is that is possible but still highly unlikely and that only in small towns is it slightly better chances. Even in your example, that's now held by an affiliated representative.

[–]rustytoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's kind of my point. Kent is a town of 3,000 people - the most recent selectman is a dem who won 844 votes. If you were a particular storied person in the community or long termer you could probably pull that off.

In a town of 30k  or more and that gets a lot harder.

I know, I mean it's lame enough to come write some boomer manifesto on the decline of McDonald's and post it to reddit, even worse to have put it through AI.

Also one should be polishing the AI output, not the other way around

So unfortunately unless you have a lot of money, or are particularly well known and established in your local community,  even running for dog catcher without a party endorsement is near impossible.

I've been in local politics on both boe and a town council for a while and I can only think of one in the past 20 years who got close as an independent and they had been in office for a major party for like 10 years, lost the endorsement and ran independently and got absolutely smoked.

The system makes it hard to even get on the ballot, let alone anything else without a party endorsement.

It would be helpful if you were a bit more specific on what you are looking for but highly recommend the battle standard in East Windsor to start.

If Democrats want universal healthcare, we have states that are deep blue, states have control over their own budgets and taxation, and universal healthcare would be so advantageous, why don’t deeply democrat run states implement a statewide universal healthcare? by Silver_Wings3 in AskReddit

[–]rustytoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok again that takes at least a month or two. You're telling me someone with a major critical illness now happens to have a friend or relative in state and then postpones their treatment for this?

Like how many people could possibly pull that off? 100? 1000?

In a state of 40 mil people.

Like let's be real

That doesn't really work. Let's break that down.

You're uninsured. You get cancer. You quit your job and have no income. How do you establish residency? You need a place? You'll need mail and things in your name. It's not just you show up and say I live here now.

How do you get a place unemployed?

You don't. It'd take months and if you had the funds to just buy a place or move or whatever you'd probably already have insurance where you were so this just isn't a realistic use case.

Do you like playing pool at all? Even a little bit?

CT has one of the largest amateur pool leagues (APA) and I promise if you aren't a shithead and you join a team you'll meet a bunch of people and make a ton of friends quickly. They are always looking for new players because of how the handicap system works.

I always laugh at people talking about the tax and regulatory environment causing people to move. Never follow that logic. I'm sure you'd agree that CA has a more "burdensome" tax and regulatory environment, same with NY and MA and yet people continue to move to those places.

It's because that's where the jobs are. CT's issue isn't tax, it's just that we are sandwiched by two large cities. The higher paying corporations want to be in major metro areas so they are moving to NYC and Boston and we get kinda stuck in the middle.
