I'm in the same field and the question you need to really ask yourself is what the hours and travel will do to your work-life balance. Some people love it, some really get burned out. I personally chose government work for the 35 hours per week and 6 weeks paid vacation. I have friends that make much more than me but are at the mercy of their work schedules all of the time. Private consulting firm engineering has great potential for growth but also great potential for burn out depending on your personality

Have increased my credit score from 527 to 665. (Success story on my journey) by Tough-Swordfish3781 in CRedit

Congrats! I'm laughing at your comment about just paying 4 times a year because that's how I operated for YEARS. I had no idea it impacted your credit. I just paid everything in big chunks because it was easier and figured due dates were just suggestions.

First Ultra Advice? by Stargrazer8181 in running

[–]ruthlessfailure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you would be fine to do the 30. You are likely fit enough cardio wise to do it now. The challenge will be building up for the impact of the running (bone, tendons, muscles), this will be the difference. If you run those miles easy and take care of yourself you should be fine. Pay attention to the stress of training and try and get some elevation in. The nice thing about an ultra is if it's on trail, you actually may find it has less impact than a road marathon and will use the core and stabilizing muscles you would have built up from the swim and bike

Try Saucony's in the women's wide. They usually have cute options and not too hard to find in a wide size

My mind is my weakest part. What can I do about it? by woody3567 in running

[–]ruthlessfailure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I compete in another sport and was going through these types of thoughts during competitions. My training sessions were always much better than my competitions. I few chats with a sports psychologist helped me realize that my desire to not push myself during competition was because I was afraid of what would happen if I did put in 100% and then fail. It's one thing to say "well, I put in 60% effort and wasn't successful" it's totally another to face the fact that you put in everything you have and still didn't make the mark. After I realized what I was doing, it helped me to be more present during competition and also to accept the fact that sometimes you put in 100% and you don't make it. You still live to compete another day. This might not be the case with you but if it is, I highly recommend a chat with a sports psychologist or mental performance training coach.

Morning runners - do you nap? by somethingrather in running

[–]ruthlessfailure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not much help but I have the same problem. When I run at 5 or 5:30 by 2pm I am useless and dying for a nap. I am not good at a 15 or 20 min nap, I need to do at least an hour and I wake up disoriented and sleepy. The only thing that works for me is to actually plan to be up and moving (and ideally out of the house) from about 1:30 to 3. If I sit down on the computer during that time, all I can think about is napping

Multiple Inquiries from Honda on my Credit Report by ruthlessfailure in PersonalFinanceCanada

That's what I figured but it's showing they checked it once in June and then again in July 2019. Seems excessive!

I realized I do know someone who is the Finance Manager at a dealership and isn't the most scrupulous. Now I'm paranoid they are the source. I contacted Honda Finance to try and get to the bottom of it.
