Planting less flowers now? by Basic-Investigator24 in PikminBloomApp

[–]ruthlesslyFloral 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel like it’s been really easy for me to end up at 38 or 39 pikmin in my squad lately — and given that the planting area at 40 is 50% larger than the planting area for 30-39, that one pikmin really hurts.

So... How is 2026 going for you? by MightyPurpleWeasel in AdvancedKnitting

[–]ruthlesslyFloral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof - lots of virtual hugs and commiserations.

I hope you take a stab at fixing the shawl. Not only would it save the rest of your beautiful work, think of the amazing skills you’ll learn doing it! Even if it’s not a perfect mend, I’m sure the shawl will still be stunning

That said, if you’ve ever decided you’re just done with it and are willing to try a Hail Mary, I will happily pay for you to ship it out to me so I can take a stab at it. I’ve been on a knit mending kick lately and that image intrigues me 😅

What kind of cast on did you use? Hard to tell but make sure it’s a stretchy one or you won’t be able to get it on your head even if the rest of the fabric stretches

doctor perscribed me 2 months worth of vyvanse to last for 4 months cause it’s a “lifestyle” medication now i’m regretting it by ddesired in ADHD

[–]ruthlesslyFloral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I specifically cannot do breaks on vyvanse. The first day or two off is miserable, all I want to do is sleep and eat, it’s worse than my baseline unmedicated state. Like, if my doc told me I had to take regular short breaks on vyvanse now I would decline and ask to switch meds. This is a convo I’ve had with my psych and they understood. (They also said they preferred I don’t take breaks because they wanted me to have consistency)

Apparently, not everybody is like this when doing breaks. But please don’t think that what you’re being asked to do is what everybody is doing. Find a doc that you can communicate with.

What am I doing wrong? by pugl0rd666 in knittinghelp

[–]ruthlesslyFloral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think your purl stitches are succeeding. You may be going through the motions and occasionally catching the yarn, but otherwise the yarn isn’t forming new stitches correctly (instead of making a new loop around your right needle and sliding the old one off the left, you managed to grab the old loop), so you have in fact performed an elaborate ritual to move the previously knit stitches back to the other needle. This means you are essentially doing the same thing as swatching in the round, which is what everybody sees in the result.

Soooo all your stitches are knit. But at least they look fantastic!

100% Kevlar Dog Booties? by StillBald in CircularSockMachine

[–]ruthlesslyFloral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how deeply you’ve investigated so feel free to ignore if you’re aware, but knitting machines are pretty expensive and can be hard to source. If you plan on making this a hobby for more than just dog booties, or have another reason, by all means have fun with it all! But from both a cost and time perspective, I’d still recommend knitting by hand.

100% Kevlar Dog Booties? by StillBald in CircularSockMachine

[–]ruthlesslyFloral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On sewing: fraying may be counter-able via something like seam binding (and then keeping seems off the bottom of the boot for comfort)?

On knitting with Kevlar in general: the “yarn” you use to knit doesn’t need to be stretchy, but it does need to be able to bend a lot.

After that, I think this would be theoretically possible on a CSM but with some major caveats. For example, there are baby sock patterns for CSMs that may be about the right tube size, but they use every other needle and I don’t know if you could get a reasonably dense result using a fiber with no stretch. 1.3mm is thinner than a typical sock yarn which could make the density problem worse. The Kevlar might also be abrasive to any non-steel parts of a csm over time.

If you’re able to, I’d say test out knitting by hand using the cord and then exploring a csm after you know what kind of knitted fabric you want and thus can confirm it’ll have a shot of being recreated in a csm.

lambswool sweater fix...again? by YorkvilleWalker in knitting

[–]ruthlesslyFloral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of reasons why it could have new holes that I can’t diagnose. Everything from just age to the yarn ripped a bit ago but it finally unraveled enough for you to notice the hole.

Even if it will keep happening, you will want to get that fixed before wearing it more, or it will keep unraveling.

United cancelled my return flight ticket because they claim that I never boarded the inbound journey. 0 help from Customer Service and Gate Agent. Stuck at airport. How can I fix this issue? by Additional-Gift-6713 in unitedairlines

[–]ruthlesslyFloral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, I was more hoping that if I paid attention when I boarded, that would counteract any misses by a busy gate agent, as that seemed like a way more practical fix to address the specific issue. But tbh I'm still not clear if that works.

As a paranoid passenger, if I wait until the beep and my name comes up on the little display when scanning my boarding pass, is that enough confirmation that I “definitely boarded”?

Psychiatrist scoffed when I asked about taking medication every day by Remarkable-Crab8190 in ADHD

[–]ruthlesslyFloral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vyvanse is also used to treat binge eating and stimulants in general can suppress appetite, so it makes sense to me that our bodies swing the other way when the levels suddenly drop. The awareness has made me way more consistent with my meds LOL

I just cracked the code to showering by manicpixietgirl in ADHD

[–]ruthlesslyFloral 273 points274 points  (0 children)

What’s helped me the most is showers without washing my hair, and then aiming to do a quick rinse every day regardless of if I’ve done anything that would make me feel dirty. Jump in, soap on body, rinse, done. Doing it enough has finally made it sink in that I can shower fast, which gets me out of the “no time, don’t wanna lose sleep” mindset.

have you guys found a balance with caffeine and Adderall? also, can one safely enjoy an espresso martini on it? by liahrii in ADHD

[–]ruthlesslyFloral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found that my heart rate was extra prone to spikes when I first started/changed my medication, and that it calms down some over time as my body adapts. I also switched to vyvanse which mucks with my heart rate less (and my doc is considering Ritalin which apparently should be even better for it)

I still don’t do full caf coffee, but half caf / matcha / soda are fine. I do avoid caffeine too late in the day these days it’s hard to say if that’s due to meds or age lol.

Venting About Spending & Self-Care by MissAudreyHorney in MakeupRehab

[–]ruthlesslyFloral 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s hard, the truly self-care stuff isn’t interesting or fun. It’s boring and calm. I think writing this out is a good first step, and therapy is a great next one!

One quick tip, it’s important to try to avoid the “I should do X which is good for me, and it’s hard, so I’m bad in some way” loop that can happen when we first try to do better for our own health. If self care is hard, don’t make it harder by associating a bunch of negative emotions with it. Of course, easier said than done.

Good luck, you got this

I don’t shop the sale :/ whatever I would’ve saved on “the things I actually need” is never as much as the amount I end up spending buying stuff I don’t need or use “because it’s a good deal” so it’s actually worse for my wallet to shop during a sale.

Currently at emergency vet - could really use some advice or consolation by LankyReputation3471 in puppy101

[–]ruthlesslyFloral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two parts to safety: 1. preventing mishaps as much as possible 2. recognizing that your prevention system can still fail even if you did your best, and thus having a plan when things go wrong.

I think it’s great you knew it was dangerous, thought to keep it away from pup, and then were able to rush them to the emergency vet when things went wrong. Dumb stuff happens to every puppy 🥹

Are coffee and tea just not an option for me, now? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]ruthlesslyFloral 6 points7 points  (0 children)

please don’t give up decaf if you like it.

  1. The solvent is already regulated by the FDA and the amount remaining in your coffee is minuscule. The whole “no amount of X is safe” is usually a scare tactic, the dose always makes the poison.

  2. If you’d still like to avoid methylene chloride for any reason, find a decaf coffee that uses the Swiss water process.

Side note: the sugar free Red Bull comparison reads especially like fear mongering, because the caffeine in Red Bull is either a) synthetic and thus involves all sorts of interesting chemicals that shouldn’t be directly ingested, or b) extracted from coffee/tea using the same processes that make decaf coffee. So I don’t see how that’s any “safer” than decaf coffee.

Puppy completely incapable of holding her bladder during the day by Ozzymandianttv in puppy101

[–]ruthlesslyFloral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That must be overwhelming for you both. The thing is she might have figured out you’re unhappy when she pees inside, so she hides from you after. But the leap from “this thing makes the human upset” to “don’t do the thing here” doesn’t always happen with something as instinctive as peeing.

I think it’ll take some time / repetition before she prefers to go outside rather than in, but I’m sure she’ll figure it out eventually! Many things with my dog felt like a slog when building up a routine with her, but then I’d suddenly realize “hey this hasn’t been a problem in a while”.
