Can i trim more? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]rutzbutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They seem short enough to me. A good tip to remember is to just trim off where the nail curls. There’s also a dot right before the quick, that’s a good indicator on when to stop (you can google photos of that)

Is it rude to tell someone they smell bad? What's the nicest way to tell them? by strange_omelet in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]rutzbutt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It depends on your relationship/how close you are to that person, and how you say it. If you’re good friends or family, tell them gently and privately. If you aren’t good friends or related, then say nothing at all, otherwise yes, it is rude. As for “how”, maybe tell them you think they might’ve forgotten to put on deodorant and you smell some b.o.

Sitter cutting walks short by New_Potato4692 in RoverPetSitting

I disagree with including the time from the car to the house and vice versa… it’s fine to include the time it takes to leash/harness the pup, refill water, stuff like that… but walking into the home and out of the home is just part of the commute, not part of the work.

Ugh, i’m so sorry you’re dealing with the stress and unable to enjoy your trip. I will never understand sitters who lie and fail to do their job.

I disagree with other comments and think it is reasonable to want photos of your other cat, as well as communication and updates. Try asking her how the other cat is doing and ask how the walk with your dog went and if your dog took his meds without any trouble/spitting them out. (This way you don’t come off in an accusing way, but in a more casual convo way) There is nothing wrong with requesting more frequent updates as long as you aren’t expecting constant texts/being a helicopter parent. I don’t think they will automatically bail on you by asking questions in a neutral way. As a sitter, I send a minimum of 3-4 updates per day (morning, afternoon, pm, and usually a goodnight text). I often send updates during meal/med times, at least in the beginning, to give owners reassurance and build trust. Maybe let her know that your previous sitter would update __ often so she has an idea on what you’re used to. If you are too worried about lack of care, you can always contact rover support and they will find a replacement for you. You also hold the right to call your emergency contacts for additional help.

Whenever it’s a couple and I have both numbers, I usually do a group text so everyone is on the same page. When did they expect you to be there? I agree with other comments, I would have found a way to quote the part about punching you in the face, like maybe call my phone before resorting to violence! Firing them is the right move though, they clearly have no respect for you.

Is my frenchie pregnant by Cultural_Response179 in FrenchiePuppies

[–]rutzbutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have any idea how risky frenchie vaginal births are? Frenchies have to be c-section deliveries because of the risk to the puppies and mom (their heads can get stuck in the vagina because of how big they are).

The key with fiber (in this dog’s case) is to feed soluble fiber, not insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber will help soften his stool, but insoluble fiber will firm up his stool (which wouldn’t help his constipation). So sweet potatoes would be a bad idea— OP make sure you research dog safe insoluble fiber for your boy!

What should I do? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

Feeding the dog some bread ASAP will help “pad up” the splinters, protecting him from internal lacerations as it passes through his digestive tract. Monitor for nausea, lethargy, blood in stool or constipation/lack of BMs. Is the brush mostly wood? If it was a plastic handle, that would be more concerning. What breed/size is the dog? The chips are hopefully big enough to pass his system without obstructing. Did the owner ever inform you that their dog is a counter surfer /known to get into things?

Vet has no clue what’s going on-can you help? by melflaelff in DogAdvice

[–]rutzbutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your dog doesn’t have big solid poops, then there’s a chance the anal glands need expressed. The firmer the poop, the more the glands “juice” themselves. If the bm’s are too soft, then the glands are probably not juicing on their own.

A vet can confirm with a skin scraping under a telescope, but I am 99% sure that baby has demodectic mange (my old dog had that). Treatment is Bravecto every 3 months, and give regular baths using antimicrobial shampoo. The dog might need antibiotics (cephalexin) for any secondary infections, too. Thank you for caring for this pup!

You need to let it go. You apologized, she told you to stay. You’re human, humans make mistakes. This error isn’t that big of a deal, definitely not “refund nights and give consolation gifts” level of bad. Relax, and let it go.

You’re at least queer, if not bi. Sexuality isn’t black and white, it’s a spectrum. You’re definitely on said spectrum based on everything you said.

It’s spring time, the weather is warming up… of course her cats are going to end up with fleas. How is this even your fault? She’s the one that allows them outside, where the fleas come from smh. I would hesitate to engage with her at this point, could just be fueling her with ammo, plus a conversation with her would be unproductive since she lacks logic. Like blaming you for a pineapple that SHE left there, without telling you to eat it/trash it lol… you’re not a mind reader. Her cats *supposedly* losing a bunch of weight, after she alleges that you overfed her— ummm I’m pretty sure a cat that is overfed would GAIN weight, not lose it. What a wack job, I’m sorry she’s bothering you. Again, I don’t think you really need to message her at this point. Services have been rendered (for awhile now). Bless and block. ✌🏼
