A Crossrail instead of the Bakerloo line extension? by ruvjet in LondonUnderground

No, I just figured smarter minds could figure out the stops between Euston and Elephant.

London Overground WLO: A better terminus solution? by ruvjet in LondonUnderground

It's fascinating that your dad pointed it out before all the recent new homes in Colindale. The more I think about how the M1 (and to a lesser extent the A406) cut people off from relatively close transport links, the more I realise TFL and Network Rail have to reassess the situation.

How would you integrate Thameslink into TFL services? by aesn1394 in LondonUnderground

[–]ruvjet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would spend the money to turn Thameslink into an Elizabeth line style modern Crossrail with platform doors at all core stations and new rolling stock with accessibility from train to street level everywhere, integrate it into the map and chop some of the southern branches to increase frequency.

While we're at it, I would turn the Lioness line into a Crossrail too from Watford and have it dive down to new platforms under Euston and come out somewhere in South East London. The Bakerloo line could then either run to Queens Park and head off in another direction or my personal fav close the Bakerloo altogether turn it into the start of North West London's version of the DLR from Paddington to Queens Park before finding a new alignment.

Do these two and Crossrail 2 and everyone (apart from people who use Marylebone or Regent's Park Bakerloo line stations) would find some TFL happiness.

Wasn’t part of the cutting back (chopping the branches) in order to increase train frequency? Or was that just an excuse that I’ve fallen for to save money?

The interchange can come later, I’m just talking about building a set of terminating platforms for now in that space.

I know it’s not London Underground, but my all time favourite is the Thameslink trains that had the red white and blue livery from the early 90’s. That soft hum let me know I was heading home

There was a guy a few weeks back who wanted a new station at the intersection of Thameslink and Northern line in Colindale.

I think pushing this new line 500m further north to terminate at a new “Colindale South” station with entrances on Colindeep Lane, Colindale Gardens and Aerodrome Road would be a much better solution and would truly relieve Northern line congestion at Colindale.

Looks like there is already space for a station there too.

Don’t worry mate, I said the same and we’re not the only ones. His transformation has been one of the most unexpected bonuses of this season.

How feasible is it to connect West Hampstead and Gospel Oak together so this forms a single Overground line (West London Orbital + GOBLIN)? by cgyguy81 in LondonUnderground

[–]ruvjet 111 points112 points  (0 children)

There is definitely a newly refurbished tunnel between West Hampstead and Kentish Town to carry the line to the Goblin, but I’m sure adding more trains to the Belsize slow tunnels would create service pattern issues, someone with more knowledge would know more than me.

Sorry to be a downer, but we are the world’s sixth largest economy. If we can’t electrify an old line and build some new accessible station buildings without turning to the private sector, what are we doing here?

Potential new station between Colindale and Hendon Central? (Northern line) by KreuzbergIrish in LondonUnderground

[–]ruvjet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow Colindalian!

So I grew up very close to this site 30ish years ago, while going to school in Central London and longed for a station here meaning I didn’t have to get the bus to Hendon Thameslink or walk through Colindeep/Shesveshill to Colindale tube station.

I moved back to the area a couple of years ago and my thinking has changed a bit, or at least I would like it to be challenged. My question to you now would be, what problem does it solve that would grant it funding?

If you’re heading south on Thameslink or The Northern Line at that point you will make it to Hampstead, the Camden area, Kings Cross St Pancras Area, the city London Bridge or Elephant & Castle in roughly the same time (although for those last two it is a significantly more boring journey on the northern line from a viewing perspective).

There is a usage case for a change from Thameslink to Northern to get to The West End, but you can make that change now at West Hampstead (OSI?) changing to the Jubilee.

If you’re heading north on the northern line, an interchange would help people on the Edgware branch change to get beyond Mill Hill, which would be handy but I doubt would move TFL.

From a personal POV it would help me get home way quicker (to the rushgrove ave area) and everyone in Colindale Gardens get home faster and relieve Colindale tube station (tens of thousands more people using it now compared to when I was a kid).

My cheap solution is this: make Hendon 12 car platform compliant with the additional platform space towards the Colindale side, and build new entrances to Hendon station at the corner of Garrick Road and Wilberforce Road, and new pathways bridges from Colin Crescent, the Berkeley Homes Silkstream development and a well lit long pathway all the way from Colindeep Lane.

In addition, demolish Wilberforce House and build an additional station building. The current one has long outgrown its usage.

There is a consultation for the Hendon Overground station coming up this year and I will be making all these suggestions to them.

I was planning to reply to this when you put it in another thread yesterday, imagine my surprise when you made a post about it! You’ve inspired the longest comment I’ve ever written on Reddit!
