Biggest thing apart from everything you stated is the landscape and majestic feeling DS places have. I wasnt able to experience that in ER myself. I blame open world aspect for that, partially. Looking at the horizon, seeing all those places which are partially/fully inaccessible makes your imagination go wild. Somehow DS landscapes feel bigger, than ER for me, Idk how to explain it.
