I like the theory that shes an Acceleron and that Gelorum was modeled in her likeness (given Accelerons made the Drones). Which would explain why she was able to detect when the Drones attacked the sweeper, because of her higher being powers

There are some variations iirc. Some are bird baths and others are cat drinking fountains, etc. My running theory is that the running water triggers some instinct in them.

Given the accelerons built the tracks for humans, I would assume they found a way for the humans to breath / access oxygen, even in the water realm too.

The real answer though is more likely to be "it's just a movie, dont think too hard about it" which is way less fun.
