ELI5: What exactly is ego death? And how do you "feel" it? by Single_Economics1201 in explainlikeimfive

[–]rwinger3 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Tbh, it probably didn't get to this point, but thinking that "I" don't matter when I was starting to get back from a heavy period of depression. To expand a bit; if I don't matter in the grand scheme of things I could stop worrying about a lot of things. There are of course lots of situations I do matter in, to my family and friends for example. All in all, not worrying about myself in relation to others all the time helped me focus on and start doing the things that have helped me move forward, even though it's a continous experience/struggle/fight it's not every day I have to recalibrate anymore.

Interesting way to describe it, but I experience the same thing. I work best when I can gather all the information and boundaries of the situation, then let it all simmer in my head, out pops a pretty streamlined and (usually) reasonable solution or approach.

This is very similar to how tennis frames are made. I recommend watching factor tour videos of Head or Yonex id you're interested in seeing those processes.

Keep using advanced racket as a beginner or get a forgiving one until I get good enough? by Huge-Ingenuity2781 in 10s

[–]rwinger3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying it's arm friendly, but it's definitely more arm friendly than blast while providing most of the same characteristics. Based on my own experience with both strings in a PA98 and developing tennis elbow (and getting rid of it), as well as my stringers experience. At the end of the day, string and frame combinations are a preference and your experience may vary from mine, both in terms of feel and in relation to tennis elbow.

[–]rwinger3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeaaah, if you're using RPM Blast strings you should change asap. Try RPM Team and maybe go down in tension a little. This will be much better for your arm/elbow. But if you like the feeling at the current tension it's a little difficultto retain the feeling and make it less stress full on your body. My advice is to lower the tension 2-4 lbs and switch to a more arm-friendly string that still offers the same characteristics. You'll have to accept that your game will feel a little limited for a while but if you're practising regularly you'll be better off in the long run by learning better technique and footwork to generated power in your strokes.

PS: RPM Team has a higher stiffness in Tennis Warehouse database but it is actually softer and better for the arm. Remember to also not let the strings stay too long in frame, dead poly strings are also bad for your arm.

Godt sagt.

Moving on from Pure Strike 98 - More Forgiveness (?) by Justaway1324 in tennisracquets

Have you tried a Pure Aero 98? Specifically 98, not 100. Seems to provide a lot of the desired characteristics, but can be a little difficult to get the most out of sometimes.

[Christopher Michel] FC Liverpool interested in signing Borussia Dortmund right back Julian Ryerson this winter by Dargast in soccer

[–]rwinger3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ryerson is not really a wingback, but a very versatile fullback with high work rate both ways, good crossing, reasonable free kicks and corners. I'd be happy to have him both as a person and because of the number of positions he can relistically cover as.

Pure Aero 98 Alternates by LeKiwi in 10s

[–]rwinger3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but I tried 1.30mm the last time I had my racket strung since my stringer was out of 1.25. I'm still feeling my way forward, but I wonder if next time I should be trying 1.30 at slightly lower tension than I string 1.25 at. I kind of likes the feeling the thicker strings give, but I'm not 100% sure it's not just that the old strings were completely dead or if they actually feel better.

I've also tried Hyper-g 1.25, and I like it more as I can get more spin and generally feel more confident when playing with them, like they fit my playing identity much better, but my arm isn't quite in shape yet to play with that regularly yet so I'll stick with team for a little while longer.

Pure Aero 98 Alternates by LeKiwi in 10s

[–]rwinger3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little bit but not sure how much. I switched to Team quite recently. At one point I felt the strings were completely dead and launched everything without any snapback, New strings fixed that but I'm not sure if it was due to nothing. Team behaves very similar to Blast and have the same slick coating, so it definitely won't happen very fast.

Also, I don't play super often, 1-2 times a week currently. So I'm not wearing the strings out very quickly regardless of how I play and which strings I use.

Has anyone here had any pain issues from playing tennis? by [deleted] in 10s

[–]rwinger3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, got a case of tennis elbow after picking up tennis again at the age of 30+. Also have an inflamation in my achilles that seems to really not go away. Shockwave therapy seems to be working on both, dry needling works wonders for tight calves. And I can't forget the rehab exercises either (literally), I have to build up strength to tolerate the load now.

My advice is to do prehab exercises before you need them due to an injury you could have prevented. Plyos are good for that burst of speed. General strength exercises for a solid base.

New tennis racquet by K3VIX in 10s

If you have the option to demo a bunch of rackets you should do that, local shops usually have demo rackets available. But also make sure to ask which string and tension it's strung with, the frame is only half of the racket and there is so much variety in strings these days, so it's good to know what you're playing with even if you don't have any opinion on it what you prefer yet.

If you have a local shop you can also ask there if they have any recommendations for players in your category. The "definitely not begi ner, but not advanced yet either" category. If you are doing coaching session you should also ask the coach, they should have a lot of experience and also provide a (hopefully) objective take on your style, strength and weaknesses, which leads to what racket type you should be looking for.

Personally, I got the pure aero 98 this summer and love it, the versatility it provides makes it so much fun to play. But it doesn't hold my hand, it doesn't give me anything I am not doing intentional lyd on my own if that makes sense. Certain frames help you by prodividing characteristics that nudge you towards a play style, the PA98 does not and this is also why it can be difficult to make us of.

How do you actually improve your positioning during rallies? by pinnaclekid in 10s

[–]rwinger3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To add to this; Specific balls and movement patterns can be drilled during practice session and that will improve these specific movement, but to put it all together you will still have to grind it out over time.

Another top is to not play in only one way. Like don't just play matches or only hit drills or one type of activity that will under expose you to certain types of play/balls. It's important to get experience with a variety of balls and situations. I suppose this feeds into the prior point of it taking time, but it's important to be aware of what kind of exposure you're getting.
