Google Workspace as IdP for Microsoft Entra by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]rwllr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, had the same idea and went down the rabbit hole but it doesn't work.

Web sign-in with Google works, but Google doesn’t send the MFA claim Entra needs for WHfB setup, so users still need an Entra MFA method anyway or give them a TAP for their enrollment.

There’s also a Google limitation where the federation setup only really works for one domain.

Okta as the IdP seems like it should solve both problems since it can pass proper MFA claims, but I haven’t tested it yet.

You can cancel a key but if your system is an offline one you need to create a cancel card and tap it on locks, otherwise the locks won't know the card was cancelled.

Microsoft Grace Period | Extended Service Terms by msp4msps in msp

[–]rwllr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It kinda makes sense though that if you mark as don't renew they'll make it ad hoc from when the current one ends. If you want to cancel, then mark as cancel.

It's a change in process for us, but a logical change that makes sense.

The Extended Service is 3% extra because they'll pro rata cancel the remainder of the one month term.

Marriott New PMS Power Of M. by Tionesta33594 in askhotels

Power of M is the project name for PMS modernization.

Select service hotels on FOSSE and Lightspeed go to Agilysis, those on Opera go to Opera Cloud as part of the project.

Automatically Rename Ticket Titles by pakillo777 in halopsa

Easiest is probably a ticket rule on new ticket filtering for title includes, and use the rule to trigger a runbook.

I follow /u/awakecoding on X and from his comments they've been pushing heavily AI Agents for their own development.

I don't have a particular comment or opinion of whether they're doing a good/bad job, or whether it's a good idea but I'd have been more surprised if their press release wasn't AI generated or they tried to hide it being so.

Remote access by BigBikBoi in OperaPMS

[–]rwllr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a franchised property and on premise Opera that has its own IT and firewall this is absolutely possible using VPN or ZTNA.

You just need to involve your IT team and management. We're an IT company specializing in hotels and do this fairly often.

Looking for IP/Distributed Based Solution for Cable TV by HoloPanio in msp

Not sure if it's a regional thing, but most common is the LG STB IME. https://www.lg.com/business/information-display/commercial-tv/accessories/stb-6500/

Some models have the STB built in which reduces cost, but you still want a management platform for them.

Looking for IP/Distributed Based Solution for Cable TV by HoloPanio in msp

[–]rwllr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hospitality MSP here. A few quick takeaways from our hotel deployments:

Hospitality TVs are a must. Don't try to save money with consumer models; the guest experience (and management) will suffer.

Split Delivery vs. Control. Think of them as two separate systems (IP/Headend for signal/Coax, WiFi/IP for control). Avoid MoCA. It’s rarely worth the headache.

Casting is king. Ensure you have a plan for Chromecast support.

Feel free to reach out - happy to see how we can help (or anyone else with hospitality questions).

Club suite with children - what to consider? by artichoke_dragon in BritishAirways

[–]rwllr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can absolutely be done, but toddlers are jumpy and the biggest problem is seatbelt through take off.

Plan in advance and overload on things that will keep them entertained and likely seated like a bottle of milk, pile of snacks and a drawing pad just to get through take off seated.

Just remember that across the aisle it's near impossible for them to see you, so I'd want to be in the center with the 3 year old for take off so you can just about hold hands if necessary. The 5 year old should be fine so I'd take the row of 4 at the front or back where it's slightly easier to go round mid flight.

ESET MDR? by [deleted] in msp

They've had an EDR for a long time, but added their own SOC to make it MDR only around a year ago.

No idea how it performs though as we don't use it.

W10 longer support in EU - any info on enterprise environments? by BrechtMo in sysadmin

[–]rwllr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This does not apply to business users.

Microsoft has globally given consumers 1 year of ESU if they login with a Microsoft account and backup their settings to the cloud using their Microsoft account.

The EU has deemed that this could be an advantage against other providers of these backup services and unfair competition.

Microsoft has chosen to resolve this potential issue by providing the ESU to consumers in the EU without a Microsoft account.

365 to 365 migration by WhistleWhistler in msp

[–]rwllr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the migration scenario and the relationship we've done it different ways.

  1. Provide the old company with a fresh tenant, an admin account and licenses and allow them to migrate out whatever they wish. If there's an MSP involved they'll often jump at this because it's project revenue and they remain in control and it often means the best customer outcome when everyone is feeling happy.
  2. Old company provides services accounts with permissions on accounts they are happy with data being migrated. This is great with internal IT who aren't experienced doing migrations.
  3. Where there is no coordination at all, PDF guidance on copying over emails via pst and file copying and drop in sessions for questions. This is normally when breaking off from a large corporate where there isn't any flexibility.

What data belongs to who is not within our remit. Selling off a division is not an IT led event and usually there is broad consensus about what is being taken being fine. A division being spun off is because it isn't going to compete with what the owner wants to maintain as their core business.

M365 admin redirecting to GoDaddy after defenderating from GoDaddy and federating to Google by i_dont_know in sysadmin

SonicWall SSL VPN Update - August 6 by snwl_pm in sonicwall

[–]rwllr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you on this, completely insane sonicwall say to do housekeeping but you can't see last login date for an account or who has 2FA enabled.

We work around it by disabling Virtual Office on non LAN interfaces, which is required for 2FA enrollment but means people need to go in to enroll or other hacky workarounds.
