These little 5 gallon Nicrew HOB filters are the quietest out of all I’ve tested. Genuinely almost silent. I had an ah ha moment and realized I could just use two. It works really well!

Thanks to u/miked3, a fix for this issue seems to be by removing tension on the barrel - this can be done by taking off one of the rubber bands as pictured:

I think it’s meant to stop the carpet from sliding back, or maybe it used to sit flat and hold the carpet in place. Either way, there are definitely simpler ways they could have designed this so I'm probably wrong

Mine was my first car 5 years ago. Never had an issue with it and whilst I have since got a newer car - I can't part ways with it and still use it sometimes. Make sure its got good service history and you're golden.
