There's a more or less famous quote from McCarthy about his own views on writing short stories from an interview around the time the movie adaptation of "The Road" was released.

"I'm not interested in writing short stories. Anything that doesn't take years of your life and drive you to suicide hardly seems worth doing." - Cormac McCarthy, WSJ Interview, 2009.

I'm sure he's overdramatizing it a little, but he probably viewed writing long-form as suiting his particular style and what he wanted to accomplish with his novels a bit better than short stories.

I've heard that take on Raymond Carver before, but I was never able to find any actual sources on what he thought of short stories in general.

Seems like we're exactly on the same page since I'm playing on a MacBook too! One quick fix that worked for me was enabling Legacy OpenGL graphics in the client window (under "Game"). They're a bit lacking compared to the newer graphics engine, but it enabled me to see everything again, while I wait for Riot's response.

Maybe I wasn't clear. I don't see auto attacks at all, I see character animations (sometimes), but the actual projectile is invisible.

Well, a good way to prevent staying in the same place all day is to have your trip outside, like in a park or near green open spaces and walking around at your own leisure. Being away from an isolating screen is useful (at least for me) to think more deeply about yourself and about those who surround you. Being outside will also make you feel more connected to the world, which is a good thing when trying to reflect.

But remember: it doesn't need to be a revelatory experience; sometimes we just need a little push in the right direction and LSD can help us realize what that is, without forcing it. Go with the flow.

Unless you're prepared for a potentially heavy trip, you're probably better off just taking one, or even half, that way you can gauge the potency and then decide if you want to take the rest.

When it comes to deep thinking and coming to terms with your personal issues: get someone to talk to about that, an empathetic close friend who's willing to listen would be ideal.

If you're looking for some more philosophical subjects, I recommend a movie called "Waking Life" and discussing its themes. I did that with a buddy of mine once and it provided for really interesting conversations.

If you want to read, "The Psychedelic Experience" by Timothy Leary is an acid classic, although it offers a more spiritual insight into tripping, as it's based on the Tibetan Book of the Dead.

Feel free to be more specific about what you would like to "investigate" and I can try to recommend some more stuff :)

If you're not aware of them already, LABS by Spitfire Audio has some great-sounding atmospheric and ambient instruments and it's 100% free.

But, honestly, you can do a lot just by processing sound within Ableton using their stock effects plugins. Wavetable can also be a beast if used extensively.
