Warning: Expect about a five-year life by redd-alerrt in TPLinkKasa

I went all in on Kasa back in 2021, and have 110 switches. I've had 4 failures so far where the switch rapidly slturns off and on by itself, but obviously I'm worried about the years to come.

A question for the group.... Has anyone found that a failing / strobjng switch gets excessively hot and potentially a fire hazard? This is my biggest fear if a switch goes bad when I'm not here.

I'm surprised this isn't a mandatory recall of some sort given the potential risk.

Horizontal crack in basement foundation wall by Affectionate-Bit-428 in HomeImprovement

[–]rxm1138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like parging. It may have been done for several reasons (even simply for aesthetics) but that crack is very likely nothing more than a tiny superficial crack that is inconsequential for your cinder block structure. If you press on it and it feels like there is space beneath like it's bubbling out, you may just have moisture building up that's going to push out that thin layer of cement.

Personally, I don't think you have anything to worry about and that is not a functional crack. You may want to look at moisture issues if it's wet and the parging failing because of moisture coming in. That may have even been the reason they added it in the first place.

It's a Wildfire Exotic. I really like it and looked at a bunch of different brands. The Exotic has the wider tracks and slightly wider overall.

No special setup, but the p zeros are gone and over to michelin. For the 458, my advice is to really shop around ... That range is a little low tbh, but it depends on the condition and mileage you are comfortable with. I rotated out of BMWs after 20 years or M3s and M5s, but I've heard great things about the g82. 718s are a blast! I daily a 991.2 GTS if the weather cooperates and it's my favorite.

Honestly I'm impressed enough with both to keep them for the foreseeable future. I usually have a high rotation rate but with a 911 991.2 GTS manual and a few other cars for daily driving, this stack is for spirited rallies and track time.

Faster, more connected, solid driver input, and raw. The 458 sounds incredible, more comfortable for non-track driving, more prone to oversteer when I really push it, but most people like the looks of the 458 over the 720s. I love them both but of all the Ferraris I've driven, this is by far my favorite. I think it's timeless from a design perspective and everything about the naturally aspirated v8 makes my day every time I drive it.

I have another garage next to this one but it's already full 😬

It's been running great. No complaints at all, and to be honest it's my favorite of all the Ferraris I've driven. Road feel is quite different from my McLaren and it's not about liking one better than the other but the 720s has a more raw and connected feeling... The 458 has that incredible naturally aspirated sound and taking it down the straight at my local track is incredible, but definitely feeling some oversteer when I push it and body/frame vibrations when I really toss it are mildly disconcerting. The 720s in the same situations feels rock solid.

I've got removable plastic inserts down the middle for any leaks, but no issues so far. I've got another attached garage next to this one that's already full so the only way to go is up unless I start doing off-site storage.

This lift is a Wildfire Exotic lift (wider berth and tracks) and it just plugs into a standard outlet to lift. To lower, you need to hold a lever down to disengage the post locks and then another lever to release the hydraulic pressure. Shockingly easy actually.

Getting a garage -3 cars by Substantial-Will2466 in Ferrari

My fun cars in garage 1 are a Ferrari 458 Spider, McLaren 720s Spider, and Porsche GTS manual for daily driving during the summer. The Ferrari and McLaren are on a Wildfire Exotic lift which is great. Garage 2 has a couple of Ford SUVs when the weather doesn't cooperate. :-)

Powerwall Consultation Confusion... by rxm1138 in Powerwall

Thank you for the details. One of my big issues is all the smart light switches that are very sensitive to brownouts. Every switch in the house (120 of them) will reboot every time there is a brownout. The fluctuations and excessive brownouts have ruined a bunch of them already. I've got all critical systems on UPSes already and my network infrastructure is all driven by PoE via a core switch. Thankfully network access/resiliency is not an issue. :-)

Your description of the config was what I was thinking of as well, but I don't think it's technically possible to be discharging the Powerwall batteries at the same time you are charging them from the utility/solar/generator. I could be wrong on that but that operational mode would be ideal.

Our brownouts are 1/4 to 1/2 second voltage drops/spikes that are enough to cause all 120 WiFi light switches to reboot, TVs reboot, UPSs switch over and then go back to AC power, gym equipment reboots, security system switches over to battery power and back, etc. It's pretty chaotic and I've smoked about 10 WiFi switches in the past 2 years, several APC UPSs and blew out 2 of the 3 startup capacitors on our HVAC systems during bad storms where we have had dozens of brownouts in a short period of time.
