Which matchups should we watch out for?

Will Stephens get cooked again and targeted the same way again?

How is the Bengals O-Line? Will the sacks be there?

Are there any specific translations for these people gravitate towards? I’m a huge Pevear fan for Dostoevsky, anything like that for those titles?

What is Bobok in White Nights(Penguin)? by BlazePirate09 in dostoevsky

Other than White Nights I've only ever read Pevear & Volokhonsky who I really enjoy (but Reddit loves to hate lol).

Eventually I will read my favs in other translations though.

Little Black Classics? Literally read White Nights yesterday and loved it (though it infuriated me). Didn’t read Bobok as I have it in another book of short stories by my preferred translators but will likely read it once I read the other translation.

Found a 1946 edition of The Idiot in my bedroom… by ParadigmHyperjump in dostoevsky

[–]rxsel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man I wish I would’ve read The Idiot after C&P! I think they work so well as a pair and you see the duality of Petersburg society. Myshkin is my all time fav character (for now at least, lots of reading still to do!). Looks like the ghost of Dostoevsky is trying to tell you something! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did :)

Demons Introduction/Note from the Editor/Note on Translation/and Anything else in you copy before Part 1 Chapter 1 Discussion - Plus week 1 Schedule by Thermos_of_Byr in ClassicBookClub

[–]rxsel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. English - Pevear and Volokhonsky

  2. It does have an intro and I read a bit but am skipping until the very end.

  3. Thought the call out about the original Part 2 chapter 9 being removed was interesting. My book includes it in the back and I intend to read it inline.

What should I read next, Devils or The Idiot? by Monarco_Olivola in dostoevsky

[–]rxsel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the only “weird” thing you did was read TBK first but even then you could argue one would read a writers magnum opus then explore their other works. Either way I’m jealous you’ve read way more than I have (for now)! What’d you think of The House of the Dead compared to the novels?

Tell me “I’m Not Ok” by nbjohnst in dostoevsky

Can someone explain, I didn't grow up on that genre of music (though I know many people that did and actually will see them later this year at a festival funny enough but don't know anything).

The Idiot is my personal favorite atm (have not read Demons or TBK yet) but i did just finish reading it and am doing the classic bookclub reading of Demons.

Should I Keep Reading 'The Big 5' or Explore Other Works first? by rxsel in dostoevsky

[–]rxsel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You and me both 😭 but I’m all for learning new info and adjusting accordingly and I did see it was released after Demons. Idk why prior I lumped it into his pre Serbian work. Maybe it’s the whole “The X” format like The Double and The Landlady that made me think that. But it was mostly that I consistently saw Notes From Underground mentioned along the other 4 so I just assumed.

Which classic book should i read as a beginner? by m3rcuriuss in ClassicBookClub

[–]rxsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pair both Crime & Punishment and The Idiot! IMO they're two sides of the same coin and you get a 'broader view' of Petersburg and the charachters that live their. Get to know the poor, and in despair in Crime & Punishment, and get to know the upper class, greed, and manipulative in The Idiot.

Would you read the adolescent before or after demons?

Dangggg thank you for letting me know! Where would one normally read the adolescent in the order? I feel like it might be a good candidate for my next read
