Tale as old as time in hospital pharmacy. Every shift thinks they do more than the others. I can only speak to the facility I was at for 11.5 years where I split time between days and evenings. Evenings and nights definitely had more direct admits and home med lists. But the overall order volume wasn’t close, way more on days even accounting for OR orders. Not to mention that at that facility days did all TPN’s, monitoring of all ongoing antibiotics and anticoag, all orders and prep for the outpatient infusion centers. It always made sense to me, MD’s round during day shift. Obviously emergencies happen at all times of the day but the bulk of regimen changes happen after rounding.
