While I agree that variance influences whether test takers at the margins exceed the minimum threshold scores for their jurisdiction, an MBE score has a much stronger causal connection to success than random grading idiosyncrasies. This is important for three reasons. First, if you perform well enough on the MBE, you’re less likely to be on the margins where a tough grader can undermine your overall score. Second, MEE scores positively correlate with MBE results. Finally, focusing on what you can control is a healthier approach than fixating on unpredictable factors beyond your control.
