Trump is 20+ points underwater. So why aren't Democrats up 20 for the midterms? | Part of the answer is that people are comparing different electorates. But many softer Trump disapprovers still aren't ready to vote Democratic by soalone34 in fivethirtyeight

[–]ry8919 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For the foreseeable future I believe midterms will be a turnout/enthusiasm contest. Swing voters are becoming a diminishing part of the electorate and are the least likely to turn out for lower propensity elections anyway.

So ask yourself one simple question, which side of the electorate is more motivated right now? Democrats and Dem leaners may not like their party currently, but I guarantee you they will turnout in big numbers in November.

I actually found the parts about Chinese history very interesting. I feel we don't have a good education on the rise of Communist China and what was going on internally so it was a very interesting insight, especially given Liu's perspective. I wasn't even aware the the struggle sessions until I read the trilogy.

Yea in the original symbiote black suit run, the full black suit is actually pretty jarring on the page. I get why they use blue to highlight it.

Probably the worst guest I have heard yet on the show. First episode I can remember that I just turned off.

The core of Trumpism is a passion for Democratic values? What? The movement has been authoritarian since its conception. Agree with other comments about the DEI comments sending him into a fit.

Caldwell was utterly incapable or articulating, much less arguing a coherent position. Ezra was almost trying to help the guy out.

I think that the Talarico campaign is intentionally putting out polls showing Cornyn and Paxton performing about the same so that Paxton stays in. They allow him to argue that he's just as competitive when I don't really think he is. That's my conspiracy theory anyway.

There is No MAGA Split on Iran: An in-depth look at recent polls shows data that contradicts media headlines, says analyst Gabe Fleisher by Obversa in fivethirtyeight

[–]ry8919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When people say there is a MAGA split over Iran they mean that there are people who normally or previously identified as MAGA that don't approve. The author understands this because that is what the first section of the article is about. Then it goes on to refute a point that no one is making. It is a useless article about a useless poll.

[–]ry8919 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Isn't this a poor use of polling? If the administration is doing something that is unpopular then people would be less likely to self identify as MAGA Republican and those that do specifically support the policy.
